Please note:

  • Part-time: the salary identified above reflects full-time salary and will be prorated based on 63 hours bi-weekly.
  • Typical shifts: days, evening and weekends. Shifts may vary depending on operational needs.
  • As a condition of employment with the Seniors Services and Long-Term Care Division, selected candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Reference Check (PRC) with vulnerable sector screening, tuberculosis screening and proof of immunization in accordance with the Long-Term Care Homes Act (O.Reg.79/10).
Major Responsibilities:
  • Conducts a needs analysis for volunteers in conjunction with all user departments which identifies areas where volunteer services can be used to advantage
  • Works in partnership with the Volunteer Executive to plan and organize a volunteer program to respond to the Homes identified programming needs
  • Recruits, through a variety of methods and selects volunteers, determining their suitability in relation to the Homes needs, in cooperation with the management of the requesting department(s)
  • Tours potential volunteers through the Home, providing information regarding the philosophy of the Home and Volunteer Program
  • Provides orientation and on-going training of volunteers in cooperation with the Home management staff
  • Develops and maintains systematic and organized documentation regarding all aspects of the Volunteer Program
  • Coordinates and monitors, on an ongoing basis, the activities of the Homes volunteers
  • Acts as staff facilitator to assist convenors of all volunteer groups on administering the group activities, encouraging regular meetings, written agendas and minutes
  • Liaises with community volunteer organizations regarding volunteerism; engages in joint planning and educational programming appropriate to the Long-Term Care Homes & Services mandate
  • Organizes in conjunction with the Homes management and staff, publicity and recognition events for the volunteers
  • Provides regular reports on the volunteer programs and initiatives to the Manager, Resident Services
Key Qualifications:
  • Post-Secondary certificate/diploma in the volunteer management discipline and/or any approved equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Considerable experience and proficiency in utilizing a variety of software packages including creating and formatting word documents, spreadsheet and database applications
  • Experience in recruitment, selection, orientation, placement and supervision of volunteers
  • Experience with seniors in an organized program or experience with persons in a healthcare setting
  • Experience in directly supervising staff or volunteers
  • Ability to identify programming needs, as well as plan and organize programs
  • Ability to conduct needs analysis and evaluate programs
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels of staff, volunteers, families, residents, etc., in an efficient and diplomatic manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Familiarity with government legislation in the area of occupational health & safety
  • Ability to work evening and weekend shifts as required
