Job Description

Description & DetailsThe team at Ripple Foundation is looking for a copy editor for Wave Blog. Wave Blog is a weekly online publication for students in grades 8-12 writes about their opinions and experiences on various topics that matter to them. New blog posts are published weekly. Students can earn 5 volunteer hours per blog post. This team member will work with the publisher and chief editor. You will be responsible to proofread blog posts submitted by students in grades 8-12.What does Ripple Foundation doRipple Foundation is a Canadian educational charity that is 100% volunteer-run. Ripple Foundation creates and delivers free community programs advocating creative literacy among children and youth. Current programs include:

  • Kids Write 4 Kids – An annual writing contest for youth in grades 4-8. The net proceeds from these book sales are donated to the winner’s charity of choice. Since 2012, nineteen young writers have become published authors serving as an inspiration for their peers.
  • Write It Workshops – A creative writing program for grades 4-8 that focuses on improving the writing skills of children through fun, interactive activities through which participants are encouraged to find their voice and gain confidence in their choices as a writer.
  • Wave Blog – A blog dedicated to amplifying the voices of young authors through the publication of posts written by youth in grades 8-12. Students get to share their opinions and experiences on various topics that matter to them. New blog posts are published weekly. Students can earn 5 volunteer hours per blog post.

  • Proofread text for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors
  • Check for voice, tone and style for the target audience
  • Provide comments and feedback to improve clarity and readability
Qualifications:
  • Editorial background with copy editing skills in media or publishing industry
  • Strong written and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail – able to catch the smallest errors
  • Good judgment on ethics to deem appropriate content
  • Organize and good time management skills
Estimated Volunteer Hours: 10 - 12 hours per monthJob Types: Part-time, PermanentSchedule:
