As we strive to be at the forefront of a complex and vastly changing retail industry, it is an exciting time to join the Canadian Tire family of companies.Reporting to the Manager, Customer Universe & Promo Analytics, the Data Scientist, is responsible for creating data science products to empower the organization with the tools to offer best in class personalized customer experiences. You will partner with business stakeholders to quickly understand business problems, developing solutions and insights that contribute tangible business value.The Customer Universe & Promo Analytics team is accountable for creating a cross-banner and silo-free source of all customer data enabling quick and efficient customer insights, audience creation, customer journey analyses and advanced customer modelling. The team is also responsible for the weekly flyer space allocation as well as measuring the profitability of product promotions displayed on the flyer.Reporting to the Manager, Customer Data Science & Analytics, the Data Scientist provides technical leadership from selecting key customer features and interactions through ensuring accurate data blending to deriving new customer attributes through descriptive and predictive analytics as well as applying a deep understanding of the data science lifecycle to customer modelling. The Data Scientist will be the subject matter expert in understanding the customer-related data sources and data scientist models.What you’ll do:

  • Develop and maintain customer and loyalty data services to execute on CTC’s business strategy and objectives that challenge the status quo in our industry
  • Design and develop big data applications to implement predictive analytics and machine learning algorithms across the full analytical model life cycle from creation and validation to deployment, management, governance, and monitoring
  • Work closely with partners in IT and data infrastructure team to ingest and utilize new data sources as they become available
  • Building relationships with stakeholders
  • Work hand-to-hand with stakeholders to understand business problems, developing data driven solutions to overcome these problems ultimately adding tangible business value
  • Work on ad hoc business reporting and analysis requests
Who you are:
  • Have a grasp of statistics, one or multiple programming languages, understanding of databases and solid foundation of relevant technical skills
  • Work with an ‘automate first’ mindset and continuously strives to work more efficiently
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications
  • Collaborative, strong leadership presence, strategically astute and capable of delivering in a fast paced and innovative market
  • Strong business acumen, including modelling, strategic business case development and analytics. With the ability to understand business problems and develop solutions
  • Previous experience in machine learning, data science and software engineering
What you’ve done:
  • Post-Secondary Education at Master’s level, with +2 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with data science disciplines, including hypothesis testing, statistical modeling, machine learning, recommendation systems, artificial intelligence, cognitive science, deep learning, etc.
  • In-depth experience with statistical programming languages like Python, SQL, R, etc.
  • Experience using advanced tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc. and working knowledge with relational and non-relational modeling, database applications and integrations, ETL tools, client/server solutions, and modern query languages
  • Experience with cloud (AWS, Azure and GCP) and industry standard data warehousing technologies (Cloudera, Snowflake, etc)
  • Experience in working with Big Data technologies (Hadoop, HIVE, Spark)
  • Training and mentoring of team members
  • Project management with tech and business stakeholders
  • Working knowledge / experience with data intelligence/visualization platforms such as Looker, Google Data Studio, Tableau or other similar tools is a plus
