Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITIONAccountable for providing highly specialized senior level technical expertise, oversight and support in the project implementation and administration of FSRA database systems to ensure all business operations are fully supported in the areas of design, setup, configuration, performance, capacity, monitoring, backup and recovery, security, maintenance and repair and disaster recovery.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides highly specialized senior technical leadership and expertise in database technologies to research, scope, design, plan, implement, as per project initiatives, and maintain and support FSRA’s database environment and technologies and FSRA’s long-term strategic goals.
  • Determines and implements strategies for the setup, configuration and maintenance required for all database systems that will enhance efficiency, effectiveness or provide appropriate security and safeguards.
  • Plans resources, leads, coordinates, evaluates and reports on technical aspects of multiple concurrent or sequential projects including: providing technical guidance, coordination and instruction, monitoring progress and problem-solving and reporting to management with recommendations.
  • Monitors and maintains database system operations and integration of servers, network, security, in support of client business requirements.
  • Assesses the systems environment and executes database system health checks, performance, and capacity reporting.
  • Develops scripts for automating tasks.
  • Serve as a technical expert for second level support groups and provides solutions for the resolution of database access and performance issues.
  • Defines Key Performance Indicators and create reporting for database environments.
  • Develops and maintains processes to ensure continuous operation of all database systems.
  • Installs updates and patches both database systems and applications published by the manufacturer.
  • Maintains database systems’ security, including user access rights.
  • Analyzes service incidents and problems, identifies risks, provides recommendations, and implements solutions.
  • Plans and coordinates data migrations between systems and maintains replicated databases (eg. Log Shipping, Always-On, Mirroring, etc.).
  • Keeps current with trends and issues in technology, reports and provides updates on current IT technologies, pricing, and innovations for consideration.
  • Designs, implements, maintains, and tests Disaster Recovery plans, that meet business platform RTO & RPO.
  • Develops technical documentation to facilitate the implementation and adoption of system changes; develops and maintains documentation and Knowledge Base materials.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience
  • Degree/diploma in Information Technology, or related field.
  • Certifications: MCSA SQL Server, or SQL Database Administrator, Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE): Data Platform, or Azure Database Administrator
  • 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator (MS SQL a must).
  • 5 years of experience in database design/architecture, data modeling, security, performance, scaling and tuning for large environments
  • 5 years of experience with relational databases, database structures and design, systems design, data management, data warehouse. Including Power shell
  • Technical experience in leading the design, building, installation, configuration and support of database environments, with focus on SQL Server in a production environment.
  • Working knowledge of Hyper-V, Microsoft Windows Server, Enterprise Storage (RAID, SAN, and NAS), Cloud Administration, and Virtualization.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Advanced knowledge of database structure and theory, and design.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of database administration methods and techniques to act as FSRA’s technical expert in database administration.
  • Strong knowledge of database tuning and troubleshooting practices, including high performance and high availability implementations, ensuring database integrity and performance standards are met.
  • Familiarity with database technologies, operating systems, platforms, storage, and network.
  • Knowledge of System Security and data backup/recovery.
  • Project skills to lead database initiatives.
  • Proven analytical and methodical skills.
  • Strong collaboration and customer service orientation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
