Join the Land and Resources I&IT Cluster as a Database System Administrator.About UsThe Land and Resources I&IT Cluster (LRC) is one of eight clusters in the OPS formed to provide groups of ministry partners with all their information technology needs. LRC partners with the Ministries of: Indigenous Affairs; Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs; Environment, Conservation and Parks; Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry; and Energy.LRC works with program areas in each of the ministries to understand their business needs and develop technology solutions that enable business transformation and digital public service goals and objectives. What can I expect to do in this roleAs a Database System Administrator, you will:
  • monitor and execute database and system administration procedures
  • identify and resolve user problems and incidents
  • provide leadership and guidance to project teams and assist in the design and development of databases
  • provide technical support and advice to users on database management systems and data administration tools, techniques and methodologies
How do I qualifyTechnical Knowledge
  • You have knowledge of relational database management and administration, and information architecture theory, principles and techniques, and techniques of data modeling using computer aided software, and use of information engineering tools.
  • You have knowledge of a wide range of computer system technologies, including server-based technologies and personal computer systems, application and database management software (Oracle, Oracle Enterprise Manager), and database development methodology, programming languages (SQL PL/SQL), and relational database concepts.
  • You have knowledge of commercial software such as Use Cases, and UML modelling, to develop/record data. models and architectures, process engineering, word processors and graphics presentation software.
  • You have the ability to interpret and apply information technology policies, directives and guidelines.
Analytical and Evaluative SkillsYou can:
  • design databases, analyse and develop project plans, data management structures and overall database operation efficiencies, requirements and standards
  • identify user problems, system and information bottlenecks and feasible solutions, develop security levels and security procedures
  • apply and adapt precedents to solve problems and design databases
  • develop and recommend standards and procedures for operating issues such as user access, security measures, data storage and retention, data manipulation and reporting capabilities
  • research and assess potential use of new information engineering and data management techniques, methodologies, software and hardware
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
  • You can exchange information during development and operation of databases.
  • You can advise on technical requirements and issues.
  • You can collaborate efficiently.
