  • Provide managers and human resources staff with specialized labour relations advice on a broad range of complex employee/labour relations issues (e.g. performance management, attendance management, discipline, disputes/grievances, collective agreement contract interpretation and application).
  • Lead and coordinate client ministry grievances beyond the Formal Resolution Stage.
  • Represent clients at mediation and arbitration.
  • Identify and analyze general employee relations issues and trends, and recommend solutions.
  • Advance positive labour relations by building effective working relationships with bargaining agent partners.
How do I qualifyTechnical Skills:
  • You have demonstrated knowledge of employee relations including principles, best practices, theories, trends, related legislation, and arbitral jurisprudence in both the public and private sectors.
  • You have proven knowledge of and experience in grievance administration and collective agreement interpretation.
  • You have demonstrated knowledge of employee relations, including principles and best practices, theories and trends, related legislation (e.g Ontario Labour Relations Act, Employment Standards Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Crown Employees Collective Bargaining Act, Public Service of Ontario Act).
Research, Analytical and Strategic Skills:
  • You have strong conceptual, research, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • You can combine strategic thinking with issues management and a service focus to assist business partners in decision-making.
Negotiation, Collaboration and Interpersonal Skills:
  • You have well developed negotiation and dispute resolution skills to represent clients at boards and tribunals.
  • You can collaborate with business partners and use superior judgment, business awareness and political acuity to provide risk-based advice.
  • You have the ability to advise and direct managers on complex issues and to promote effective labour relations.
  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • You have strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
