Job Description

Evening Guest Services AssistantReports to: Facility ManagerHours: 30 hours per week (must have availability evenings 4:30-10:30pm M-Th; Sun 1-7pm)Type: permanent full time hourlyCompensation: $19.25 per hour, 3 weeks vacation with 6% vac pay; plus benefits _____Overview of Knox ChurchKnox Church is a large, urban, evangelical and reformed congregation with an emphasis on expository preaching, local and global missions, and intercessory prayer. Located next to the University of Toronto’s downtown campus, Knox Church is increasingly multi‐cultural and multi‐ethnic in its makeup. The congregation comprises many who live throughout the Greater Toronto Area, as well as those in the neighbourhood and many who are connected to the University of Toronto. Knox Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in Canada.Knox Church facilities include a 115-year-old Church building, a 100-year-old multi-unit residential building, and a 1960’s-era facility attached to the main Church building that includes a gym, bowling alley and additional program space. Knox Church site is approximately one acre in size. In total the Knox Church site includes almost 70,000 square feet of building infrastructure.The Guest Services Assistant is a site-dependent role that functions as the primary greeter and facility host during the hours scheduled. The ideal candidate for this role is someone who is able to provide a warm and welcoming sense of hospitality for any staff member, volunteer or guest who comes onsite. The responsibilities include daily screening of visitors per COVID-19 protocols in place, any disinfection routines related to COVID-19 protocols, ensuring overall church security, and that occupational health and safety measures are being followed by those on site. In addition, the Guest Services Assistant may assist the Facility Manager with site garbage removal and shoveling snow.Position ResponsibilitiesGUEST SERVICES/SECURITY

  • Depending on the shift, opens the building and disarms the security system at the beginning of the day; closes and arms at the end of the day, Sundays and as required
  • Welcomes guests and provides hospitality for Knox staff, visitors and any rental clients or ministry programs onsite
  • Acts as first tier front office and security and follows Knox protocols around escalating security issues appropriately
  • Monitors doorbell and uses security cameras to check parking lot and grounds usage
  • Ensures HVAC is set appropriately for events (heat and AC) as requested by Facility Manager
  • Assists with event clean up and strikes room set up after events
  • Acts as Fire Warden and First Aid responder
  • Supports Facility Manager during fire alarms whilst on shift
  • Troubleshoots issues regarding building access: arming/disarming the alarm and dealing with trespassers/intruders
  • Triages walk-ins per Knox protocols
  • Provides backup for custodian and Facility Manager upon request
  • Oversees Lost and Found
CUSTODIAL
  • As requested, performs disinfection of high touch surfaces (COVID-19)
  • Cleans, disinfects, and stocks bathrooms as required and requested (Note: bathroom cleaning frequency will vary depending on building usage and which bathrooms are open and closed)
  • Ensures that hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes and Kleenex are in stock and replenished regularly on the main floor
  • Helps with ad hoc basement and other church clean up or reorganization initiatives as requested
  • Assists with routine kitchen, fridge and freezer hygiene
  • Assists with snow shovelling and walk-way de-icing upon request
  • May be asked to assist with light maintenance duties
  • Assists with routine kitchen, fridge and freezer hygiene
GENERAL
  • Assists Facility Manager with snow removal, salt, and other grounds or maintenance requests
  • Replies to ad hoc requests from staff

QUALIFICATIONS
  • high school diploma; those with college or university credentials are also encouraged to apply
  • Extensive cleaning experience; comfortable with cleaning toilets and working with chemicals
  • 3 years of working experience, preferably some experience working in a church environment
  • Prior Occupational Health and Safety, WHMIS, Fire Safety, First Aid and AODA training, would each be considered assets
  • Physical strength and good hand-eye coordination; able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Fluency with the English language – including the ability to speak, read and comprehend chemical label instructions
  • Excellent communication skills – comfortable with email, phone, text; cell phone user
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Apps (Gmail)
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • A valid driver’s license would be an asset
  • Must be willing to keep First Aid training and certification updated on an ongoing basis
  • Must be willing to complete a police background check and comply with the policies of Knox Church
