Our team is unified around a common bond: a passion to wow clients by delivering an unforgettable event experience that simultaneously supports the goals of the House as a whole and generates revenue to support Hart House initiatives and programming.In short, our team succeeds when our clients and guests love what we do.Your opportunity:Under the general direction of the Event Operations Manager, the Event Supervisor is a champion of customer service at Hart House, ensuring that all services provided by Hart House Hospitality Services are successfully delivered day-of, and executed to the complete satisfaction of our clients and guests.The incumbent upholds superlative customerservice standards, working with a diverse community of constituents that includes students, internal partners, faculty, staff, alumni, and the wider GTA community. Acting as the lead day-of contact for clients and event staff, the Event Supervisor takes a client-focused approach in working with these constituents, demonstrating inclusive behaviours and enthusiastically ensuring all event elements, including room set up and food & beverage service, are delivered to the clients’ specifications. The Event Supervisor stays calm and collected when presented with the unexpected and adeptly directs staff and liaises with clients as needed to ensure unanticipated occurrences are transformed into moments of amazing leadership and superb customer service.The Event Supervisor communicates guidelines, plans, and legal obligations for use of the facility to staff, clients and guests. The incumbent ensures that post-event reports are completed for each function, communicating any incidents and identifying areas for improving service for the future.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as the first point of contact for catering and food services enquiries.
  • Analyzing client needs and making recommendations on event logistics and options.
  • Determining food presentation and delivery logistics with food preparation team.
  • Liaising with others to coordinate event set-up, changes and schedules.
  • Providing detailed explanations on guidelines and expectations to staff.
  • Liaising with clients and vendors to resolve minor complaints and address issues.
  • Keeping a record of any incidents or events that happen during a shift.
  • Updating and maintaining a procedures manual.
Essential Qualifications:
  • College Diploma (2 years), preferably in a relevant discipline such as Hospitality Management. Smart Serve required.
  • Minimum three years related experience in a public-facing role in a large full-service high-volume events operation or establishment.
  • Strong knowledge of service standards, and different service types.
  • Previous experience supervising staff, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Experience ensuring room set ups and service are executed according to established standards as well as assessing and advising on standard operating procedures to meet client demand.
  • Demonstrated experience in completing reports, including post-event reports, bar reports, equipment maintenance requests, etc.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in all work responsibilities and in collaborative workplace practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to superlative customer service.
  • Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, written, verbal).
  • Ability to manage and organize numerous and competing tasks in a high-volume environment.
  • Strong organizational skills; accuracy and attention to detail.
