Position Details:Current Rate of Pay: Min = $22.32/hr, Max = $24.20/hrEmployment type: Temporary FulltimeDuration of employment: 3 MonthsHours of work: 40 hrs/weekWork location: Meadoway (101 Ridgetop Rd, Scarborough), Restoration Services Centre office (9741 Canada Company Avenue) and various locationsDivision: Restoration and InfrastructureBusiness unit: Restoration and Resource ManagementTravel: 30%Remote Work: NoneAbout TRCA:With more than 60 years of experience, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) is one of 36 Conservation Authorities in Ontario, created to safeguard and enhance the health and well-being of watershed communities through the protection and restoration of the natural environment and the ecological services the environment provides.TRCA works to protect the integrity and health of the rivers and creeks in the jurisdiction, develop a system of green and natural spaces that sustains local ecosystems, and advance sustainable practices that improve people’s lives within our growing region.How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:This position plays an integral role in the on-ground implementation of meadow restoration and ecosystem enhancement through the management of invasive species. Completion of Meadow restoration activities includes site preparation, seeding, monitoring, as well as invasive species management throughout the jurisdiction. Candidates will assist crew leads and actively participate in the safe operation and maintenance of a range of tools and equipment including tractors and backpack sprayers. Occupational health and safety is a major responsibility of this position.Major Responsibilities:Perform the following tasks under general supervision:

  • Assist Crew Leads with the implementation of meadow restoration and invasive species management within The Meadoway and throughout the TRCA jurisdiction.
  • Assist with operation and maintenance of equipment, including tractors, backpack sprayers, zero turn mowers, trucks, implements and power hand tools.
  • Assist with invasive management following best management practices including herbicide application.
  • Perform daily vehicle and equipment inspections to ensure safe operation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
All activities are expected to be performed in a safe manner, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, along with Corporate Safety policies, procedures and programs. In addition, all necessary personal protective equipment must be used and maintained in good condition.What will you need to succeed:
  • Post-secondary education in biology, environmental science, resource management or a related field and pursuing a career in environmental or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of native and invasive plants and proficient plant identification skills.
  • Demonstrated ability and aptitude to work outdoor in adverse conditions.
  • Good physical fitness required for carrying equipment for extended durations.
  • Valid Ontario G driver’s license. Class A (R) license / trailer experience an asset.
  • Comfortable working with and applying herbicide.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
