Job Description

As a member of our Withdrawal Management Services team, the Human Services Counsellor will perform assessments and referrals, and provide counselling and life skills training at our residential withdrawal management centre located at 135 Sherbourne St.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Admits and discharges clients; screens clients before admissions using appropriate judgement and criteria.
  • Assesses individual needs and matches needs with appropriate community services or agencies.
  • Provides individual counseling and life-skills training.
  • Performs administrative duties, including preparation of shift reports three times a day and documents actions and current condition of each client.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Diploma program in Human Service Addiction Studies, Social Service Worker, Mental Health studies, or a recognized equivalent.
  • University degree would be an asset.
  • Must have current CPR.
  • Proven experience in addictions counselling and developing supportive relationships with clients and community agencies.
  • Sound understanding of issues within the inner city population.
  • Ability to manage a variety of competing priorities and demands in an intensive environment with multiple interruptions.
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, team collaboration and conflict management skills.
  • Proficient computer skills with basic knowledge of a windows environment, word processing, and E-mail, i.e., Microsoft Word, GroupWise, CATALYST.
  • Must have an excellent attendance and punctuality record
HOURS:
  • Must be willing to work all shifts including days, evenings, nights, holidays and weekends.
