Job Description

Since launching in 2009, Independent Mechanical Supply (IMS) has become GTA contractors’ preferred distributor of plumbing, hydronics, and PVF products. We’re proud to have one of the largest product selections in the industry. Our customers love both our selection and working with our team.The Inventory Specialist will be responsible for facilitating inventory accuracy across the organization. This includes but is not limited to planning and hands-on completion of monthly cycle counts, bin location/stock location maintenance and investigation of all discrepancies.Roles and Responsibilities:Daily Inventory

  • Verify inventory on behalf of Inside Sales/Outside Sales staff as requested and report back to contacting person
  • Verify “No Product Location” Report and designate a picking location for all products requiring a location
  • Verify product overcommitted (Negative On-Hand Report) and investigate root cause and document mistake with five (5) W’s answers
  • Verify return inventory report for accuracy, damage, and put-away stock
  • Review IBT variances and investigate root cause and document mistake with five (5) W’s for all branches daily
  • Inventory adjustments with a net value of $2,500 or above need approval from the Operations Manager or the Vice President.
  • Serve as the company-wide key point of contact for all inventory investigation and resolution
  • Except where specified, incumbent will be responsible for Daily Inventory tasks at Rexdale and at Oakville and Scarborough at a minimum once per week
Weekly Inventory
  • Complete cycle counts of two full aisles of product and/or two complete product lines where more appropriate
  • Complete cycle count of one full aisle or one complete product line where appropriate in Oakville and Scarborough locations
  • Monthly stock verification of overstock locations (Carlingview Road, Scarborough, and Oakville)
  • Investigate non-stocks not committed to sales orders
Interdepartmental Efficiencies and Customer and Vendor Relations
  • Foster collaborative/problem solving demeanor amongst departments
  • Develop and maintain key business relationships with external customers to foster a cohesive team to achieve objectives
  • Participate in regular staff meetings to provide a safe, team building and customer focused environment
  • Escalate vendor issues requiring management attention (i.e. Vendor shipping errors, reoccurring packaging issues, unresponsiveness, quality issues etc.)
  • Work with senior management to develop quantitative reporting i.e. inventory accuracy
  • Prepare and plan yearly inventory strategy, and organize team meetings for all locations for inventory

  • Other duties and special projects as assigned
Requirements
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of products sold by wholesale plumbing distributors
  • Customer-centric focus
  • Ability to lead in a hand-on way with a focus on accountability
  • Ability to foster a safe and collaborative work environment of empowerment, accountability, respect, consideration, open honest interaction, and fun
  • Skill at developing (in partnership with the team), continuous improvement ideas, assess these for feasibility, implement changes and monitor for adjustments
  • Dedication to developing staff, cross-training, helping to develop team members with a focus on helping people to see their work at Independent as a career and not just a job
  • Desire to continually be educated in the requirements of the position
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Adobe Acrobat, Bid & Order Entry Software and Internet Information Gathering/Research
  • Excellent Written and oral communication skills
  • Established history of demonstrating the ability to pay attention to detail
