Job Description

Lead Modeler, EnvironmentLocation: Toronto, CanadaRemote work available for this positionDescriptionCO3 Animation is a global animation service provider supporting creators in bringing their stories to life. Our team of world-class animation production veterans are innovators and problem-solvers.We are seeking an experienced highly skilled 3D Modeling Lead for an animated feature film. The role of Modeling Lead is to oversee a team of Modelers in the process of model construction for a given project, matching the established physical aesthetics for environment, sets and props carrying out their completion, on schedule, with an international team of artists. The Modeling Lead position reports to the Modeling Supervisor.Role Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with CG Supervisor, Modeling Supervisor and key creative team to develop visual 3D geometry style of all set and prop assets of a project, working from 2D and 3D visual development reference.
  • Collaborate with the Rigging and Animation departments to ensure that the models are optimized for rigging and performance needs.
  • Collaborate with the Surfacing Department to ensure that models and UVs are optimized for surfacing needs.
  • Participate in the creation of modeling pipeline workflow and support their geo throughout the production.
  • Oversee delegation, review and approval of all assets with local and international artists with Deluxe Animations Studios proprietary systems.
  • Conduct steps for modeling review and approvals, meeting the look and needs for the film’s production. This includes properly executing changes and notes from the creative team on a project in a timely manner.
  • Training and coaching Modeling team of varied degrees of talent to produce high-end feature quality models properly and on schedule. This includes ensuring establishing procedures are being followed, answering questions and working with leads and modelers to find creative solutions for problems that may arise.
  • Help manage and maintain targets and quotas for their team.
  • Conduct regular meetings with their team as well as participate in larger show meetings with other key creative.
  • Support all departments with fixes/changes and any modeling issues that may arrive during the course of production.
Job Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in Animation, Film, Art OR equivalent professional work experience
  • 2+ years of 3D feature animation experience
  • Excellent knowledge of 3D modeling and UV layout in Maya and Zbrush. Experience with other programs a plus.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with Supervisors, Technical Directors and Production Management throughout a project.
