Company DescriptionShopify is a leading global commerce company, providing trusted tools to start, grow, market, and manage a retail business of any size. Shopify makes commerce better for everyone with a platform and services that are engineered for reliability, while delivering a better shopping experience for consumers everywhere. Shopify powers millions of businesses in more than 175 countries and is trusted by brands such as Allbirds, Gymshark, PepsiCo, Staples, and many more.Job DescriptionWithin the Shopify Legal Team, the Regulatory Affairs Team works closely with internal and external stakeholders to help ensure Shopify’s platform makes commerce better for everyone. The team is responsible for engaging with regulatory and law enforcement entities worldwide. Just as importantly, the team works internally to develop and deploy strategies and policies to help Shopify’s business achieve its ambitious goals within existing (and future) regulatory frameworks, and through developing and implementing Shopify’s Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).As Legal Counsel, Regulatory & Content Policy, you will provide legal counsel to Shopify on cutting-edge regulatory issues and related matters at the intersection of technology and regulation. You must be a team player with strong legal, analytical, and communication skills. Deep business acumen, creativity, and an ability to build high-trust relationships will be key as you translate legal risks to internal stakeholders, while providing strong, strategic counsel that drives towards consensus. In addition, you will advise on, and contribute to the development of Shopify’s AUP. You will research and analyze legal and platform policy issues in jurisdictions worldwide, collaborate with internal stakeholders on AUP matters, and anticipate new areas for policy development. You will also draft content policies, and handle escalated, sometimes high profile AUP issues.Success on the Shopify legal team requires intellect, humility and a sense of humour. You need to take the work seriously, but not take yourself too seriously. You also need to be comfortable with being uncomfortable, able to work with many different types of personalities, and be ready to navigate uncharted waters and frequent change.Qualifications
