Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Manager, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and Sustainability to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in shaping our organization #39;s sustainability strategy with focus on supporting our Residential Real Estate business. The Manager, ESG and Sustainability will be responsible for implementing Fengate’s ESG programs and initiatives with a focus on residential real estate properties, identifying innovative sustainability programs, preparing financial models to evaluate ESG opportunities, and preparing ESG reports and submissions. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams in Infrastructure, broader Real Estate and Private Equity, to drive sustainability initiatives, lead ESG data management efforts and communicate our progress to internal and external stakeholders. This role will be based out of Toronto with occasional travel to our Oakville office. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. ESG Data Analysis: Conduct in-depth research and analysis of ESG data at the asset level, including environmental metrics, social impact indicators, and governance practices, to identify key trends and insights and propose solutions.
  2. ESG Data management: Manage ESG data collection, maintenance, and quality assurance processes to ensure accurate and reliable reporting, with focus on carbon accounting and quantification of embodied and operating emissions under GHG Protocol and PCAF methodologies. Develop insights to reduce carbon footprints and enhance sustainability in construction, operations, and maintenance.
  3. Financial modeling: Prepare financial models to evaluate ESG programs for existing and new investments and prepare business cases and presentations to the executive leadership team.
  4. Industry research: Research technological developments, regulatory developments, grants and incentives, and market trends which can be applied towards recommendations on ESG investments in the residential real estate sector.
  5. Reporting and Disclosure: Prepare and publish regular ESG reports, including sustainability reports and disclosures, in accordance with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., GRESB, SFDR, GRI, SASB, TCFD).
  6. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather feedback, align ESG goals, and maintain transparent communication. Liaise with external residential property management to support the implementation of initiatives at the asset level.
  7. ESG Strategy: Contribute to the development and refinement of Residential Real Estate’s ESG strategy, ensuring it aligns with the company #39;s long-term goals and values. Support building certification initiatives including LEED, BOMA, WELL H + S.
  8. Risk Management: Identify ESG-related risks and opportunities that could impact the company #39;s reputation, financial performance, and sustainability. Work with risk management teams to mitigate these risks.
  9. Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with evolving ESG regulations and reporting requirements, ensuring Fengate has the measures in place to remain compliant.
  10. Thought Leadership: Stay informed about emerging ESG trends, methodologies, and industry best practices. Share insights with the organization and contribute to thought leadership in the ESG field.
RequirementsKEY QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor #39;s or Master’s degree in a relevant field of study (environmental science, real estate, finance, accounting, sustainable finance, engineering)
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in sustainable finance, environmental science, sustainability consulting, residential real estate sustainability, or related roles.
  • Strong understanding of ESG frameworks, GHG reporting standards, and reporting guidelines.
  • Excellent analytical and research skills with the ability to interpret complex environmental and financial data.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to convey ESG information to diverse audiences.
  • Residential real estate and property management experience is strongly preferred.
  • Professional certifications in ESG (e.g., CFA ESG Certificate, SASB FSA, GRI Sustainability Reporting Standards) is preferred.
