Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education is Canada’s foremost provider of university-based adult education, facilitating access to the University’s renowned, professionally relevant courses and programs. Since 1975, we have been delivering leading-edge workplace knowledge that empowers learners to reach their personal and professional goals. We have approximately 70,000 annual enrolments (in 1,500 courses, seminars, and workshops) in Arts; Business; Communication and Design; Community Services; Engineering, Architecture, and Science; Gateway for International Professionals; Programs for 50+; and Spanning the Gaps – Access to Post-Secondary Education. We also offer 86 career-related certificate programs and numerous course series, with 39 certificate programs that can be completed entirely at a distance. We are building a culture of recognizing and celebrating diversity and welcome you to join us.The OpportunityThe OpportunityThe Manager,Teaching Support will ensure high quality in instruction and learning in The Chang School through the effective management of teaching support services.

  • Work collaboratively with The Chang School program directors and university stakeholders to develop and implement solutions in line with Chang School’s strategic direction towards instructional quality and engagement with instructors and academic coordinators.
  • Maintain effective instructor relations by overseeing the day-to-day administration of all aspects of instructor support services within the Chang School, Toronto Metropolitan University and Toronto Metropolitan University International College (TMUIC), including the implementation of the instructor collective agreement
Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day administration of instructor support services within The Chang School, including job postings and recruitment, hiring decisions and teaching contracts, orientation and provisioning, internal communications, teaching evaluations and professional development.
  • Work closely with senior management to support the instructional quality agenda, including overseeing and managing the instructor evaluation process and online course surveys.
  • Plan and coordinate the development and delivery of a variety of professional development activities for Chang School instructors, including conducting needs assessments, designing professional development programs or sources external resources, content and delivery methods.
  • Assess the instructor recruitment needs collaboratively with management to determine appropriate recruitment strategies, support systems, such as interview teams and implement and evaluate the plan for each posting period.
  • Provide leadership to the Teaching Support staff by setting key objectives, managing performance and providing the necessary coaching, mentoring and feedback on performance, training and professional development.
QualificationsTo help us learn more about you, please provide a cover letter and resume describing how you meet the following required qualifications:
  • Completion of a post-secondary degree in Education or a related field
  • At least 5 to 7 years of relevant work experience in a post-secondary environment, including a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, including:
    • Project management experience on designing and delivering teaching support initiatives
    • Good understanding of adult learning and effective teaching practices
    • Experience managing in a union environment or dealing with union issues
  • Understanding of adult education or training and development;
  • Knowledge of equity, diversity and inclusion principles;
  • Supervisory and people management skills;
  • Strategic thinking/planning skills in order to develop operational strategies;
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and management skills to be able to manage key relationships with a team and key stakeholders;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to network and work collaboratively with various stakeholders, internally within the University community and the broader community
  • Solid analytical and risk assessment skills
  • Good project management and time management skills;
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment, analytical and problem-solving skills in decision-making.
  • Intermediate computer skills including knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing, knowledge of the Internet.
  • Ability to work in a complex, rapidly changing environment.
