If you think youd be a great fit at Borrowell, read on to learn more about us and how our business works!About the role:Borrowell is looking for an Editor to play a key role in supporting Borrowells growth in 2022 and beyond.Reporting to the Director of Marketing, this role will have the opportunity to make a direct impact and establish Borrowell as a thought-leader and go-to source for Canadians in personal finance and credit education. The ideal candidate will leverage their journalism, storytelling skills, search engine optimization (SEO) and business sense to grow Borrowells reach across Canada and drive member acquisitions to our free credit score and credit-building products (Rent Advantage™ and Credit Builder) through an editorial and content strategy.If you have an innovative, collaborative and curious mindset, and are excited about helping Canadians make good financial decisions, this is the role for you!What youll get from this role:

  • Build a complete editorial and content strategy for Borrowell from the ground up - content will be core to Borrowells growth as we aim to educate even more Canadians on personal finance
  • Get to leverage new trends, experiment with content, and test new channels/formats to see what works - we are open to making big bets!
Responsibilities:
  • Lead Borrowells editorial strategy to achieve content KPIs, such as, organic visitor growth to the blog and member acquisitions, and develop strategies to extend the reach of our content
  • Develop, edit, write and update current news stories and evergreen content that brings a sense of clarity and empowerment on personal finances and related topics; develop and manage a rooster of freelancers who are experts on the topics they write about
  • Leverage Borrowell data and external data to identify trends and develop insightful commentary on the state of personal finances in Canada to help secure earned media coverage
  • Manage and coordinate press and media (PR) campaigns, profile-building activities; pitch and write opinion pieces on behalf of Executive team leaders
  • Work closely with the Marketing team and cross-functional teams to support campaigns, projects and product launches, including identifying opportunities to work with other brands on content collaborations or swaps to reach new audiences
Requirements
  • 2+ years of experience in a role with similar responsibilities, including directly or indirectly managing a small team, freelancers and/or vendors
  • Strong knowledge of personal finance or economics topics, particularly key trends, issues, policies impacting Canadians in recent years
  • Ability to tell compelling and clear stories, and analyze and interpret data to identity trends and insights
  • An entrepreneurial and business mindset, with experience setting and driving business goals through content
  • Ability to communicate plans, impact and results to team members and management
Nice to Haves:
  • Experience with media and press relations, including pitching, briefing spokespeople, building media lists, maintaining relationships and reporting on results
  • Familiarity with search engine optimization (SEO) best practices for written, video and/or other content formats, and/or other marketing areas
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics or equivalent tools for website and webpage analytics
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in journalism, communications, business, economics or finance; experience in a startup/scale-up or fintech environment
  • Working knowledge of tools for media monitoring, media contact databases or social listening tools such as MuckRack, Meltwater, Cision, or equivalent
