Job Description

We currently have a Regular Full Time opportunity for a Material Handler in the Environmental Services Department at our Bayview campus.Hours of Work:Weekdays & Alternating Weekends: Evenings; 8hrs; As per scheduleOn-Call Required.Summary of Duties

  • Unload trailer of clean linen and deliver to designated locations
  • Collect soiled linen from designated areas and load inside trailer
  • Report any missed deliveries from linen supplier
  • Replenish linen cart with any surplus linen from units
  • Complete labelling of items as required
  • Report missed pickup schedules of waste by Waste Hauler
  • Collect and transport hazardous and medical waste from Waste Chute areas and other designated areas to Waste Processing room
  • Report any equipment that is non-functional
  • Provide support to the Environmental Support Services team as required
  • Participate and assist with linen and waste management initiatives when required
  • Keep linen and waste room clean & tidy
  • Be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of employees, patients, students, volunteers, physicians and visitors including but not limited to: compliance with the safety standards of the Hospital and applicable legislation
  • Conduct work in a safe manner; observe and practice preventative measures identifying and reporting safety issues
  • Attending safety meetings, training, keeping updated with current Hospital standards requirements

  • Completion of Grade 11 education (or recognized equivalent)
  • Ability to organize, plan and schedule work to minimize disruption to hospital functions and departments
  • Ability to work in an expeditious, safe and structured manner
  • Ability to read and write English
  • Knowledge and commitment to Occupational Health and Safety in the Workplace
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job (e.g. heavy lifting, frequent prolonged standing, walking, pushing, pulling, moving of supplies, considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching
  • Must have excellent manual dexterity and mobility
  • Evidence of good attendance, a satisfactory performance history and a discipline-free record required
  • Must be able and willing to wear safety shoes and personal protective equipment
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Must have tow motor/forklift license
  • Must comply with all hospital Infection Control protocols
