Major Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the efficient operation of central stores operation.
  • Responsible for the efficient operation of both computerized and paper based goods procurement, monitoring and reconciliation systems for the Divisional yard operation.
  • Ensures compliance in Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) requirements of the "Hazardous Products Act and Controlled Products Regulations" and updates the computerized and hard copies of MSDS sheets as required.
  • Ensures that all items are properly received, unpacked, examined, counted, sorted, labelled, coded and stored
  • Contacts suppliers to correct shipping errors and arrange for returns.
  • Responsible for repair and/or replacement of mobile radios/cellular phones.
  • Coordinates pickup and delivery of goods to various sites. Issues and checks equipment, material and supplies prior to shipping order. Assists in loading and unloading supplies
  • Requisitions necessary material, supplies and equipment.
  • Completes and archives inventory & procurement records related to stores operations.
  • Assists in conducting inventory and correcting discrepancies
  • Provides service to stores customers, telephone and radio communications, answers inquiries and takes messages
  • Ensures stores, building, vehicles and delivery area, etc. are clean and well maintained
  • Reports and requests repairs of equipment as required
  • Operates related stores equipment
  • Coordinates the Divisional clothing orders.
  • Maintains an inventory record of hazardous waste and ensure compliance with Ministry of Environments HWIN Registration
  • Provides work direction and training to staff
  • Ensures that only authorized staff are permitted in the secured stores area
  • Performs other related work as assigned
  • Travels to various work locations and may operate mechanized equipment
Key Qualifications
  • Considerable experience in storekeeping methods and practices.
  • Experience preparing and maintaining accurate inventory records.
  • Experience operating a computer and related software programs in the performance of duties such as MS Word, MS Excel.
  • Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “G” Driver’s License, ability to operate mechanized equipment such as fork lifts and must qualify for the City’s equipment operating permits and requirements.
You must also have:
  • Knowledge of Solid Waste collection and associated Divisional practices, processes and appurtenances.
  • Ability to interpret stock catalogues and verify quality of merchandise
  • Knowledge of computerized Inventory Systems and/or Work Management systems
  • Knowledge of computerized stock management and financial systems and computer equipment.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures in accordance with the Purchasing and Materials Management Division
  • Must be physically capable of performing the required duties and able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to provide work direction and training to others.
  • Ability to deal with staff, the public and suppliers in a courteous manner and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to this work.
  • Must be available to work shift/weekend/overtime/on call duty.
  • Ability to research new products and processes.
