Job Description

Kepler is on a Mission to bring the internet to space. Incorporated in 2015, Kepler’s guiding star is to enable the space economy through the creation of a communication network in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) that will provide connectivity services to other space missions, be they on orbit in LEO, MEO, GEO, or beyond. With an expanding base of early customers and our first 19 satellites in orbit, Kepler is continuing to grow and expand its most important asset – the Team! Based out of our HQ in Toronto and with an office in the UK and a newly formed office in the US we are building towards a truly global company delivering a product for the whole world.We are on the hunt for an experienced Network and Systems Administrator to work within the Information Technology group at Kepler. This role will helpensure the integrity of our network and computer systems.This role is a Hybrid role requiring occasional work onsite atthe Kepler’s Toronto offices at 196 Spadina Avenue.Responsibilities:

    • Install and configure software and hardware.
    • Manage network servers and technology tools.
    • Set up accounts and workstations.
    • Monitor availability, capacity and performance and maintain systems according to requirements.
    • Assist in the design and Implementation of network and systems continuity plan.
    • Troubleshoot issues and outages.
    • Ensure security through access controls, backups and firewalls.
    • Upgrade systems with new releases and models.
    • Develop expertise to train staff on new technologies.
    • Streamline networks to accommodate business growth.
    • Monitor network performance and capacity in the areas of response, throughput, and availability.
    • Prepare and maintain network and systems documentation.
    • Assist in diagnosis of network issues and escalations on helpdesk.
    • Managing Windows and Linux servers.
    • Ability to support on-call shifts and travel to the office as part of a team rotation.
    • Assist on employee on-boarding tasks.
Requirements:
    • University or College Degree in a related IT discipline or equivalent job experience.
    • 3+ years of demonstrated hands-on experience supporting mission critical infrastructure.
    • Strong networking fundamentals of networking and associated tools (NAT, DNS, DHCP, Firewall and VLAN).
    • Experience working with AWS (Route53, IAM, EC2).
    • Experience with scripting languages such as Bash.
    • Experience with Linux and Windows server administration.
    • Ability to work with people (clients and internal staff) in a professional manner.
    • Attention to detail, well organized with the ability to produce and follow processes and procedure documentation.
    • Self-motivated individual with a desire to identify areas of process improvement and drive those through to completion with minimal guidance.
    • Experience in balancing time critical requirements with taking necessary precautions when operating in a critical system environment.
Bonus Points:
    • Experience with Docker Containers using Docker Compose.
    • Experience with database administration of MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB.
    • Experience with Apache and Nginx web server platforms.
    • Experience with hypervisors like Vmware, Xenserver, etc.
    • Experience with monitoring solutions like Nagios, Zabbix or Prometheus.
    • Working experience writing automation scripts.
