Co-op and WIL give students an opportunity to apply skills learned in the classroom, and to expand their knowledge through related work experience. The Department of Arts and Science Co-op is responsible for preparing over 2,700 undergraduate students from 37 academic areas to compete for paid co-op work term opportunities. The department is also responsible for engaging industry partners who provide these work terms. A coordinated effort among the stakeholders of student, employer, and university co-op programming contribute to the development of well qualified graduates who are prepared to assume a productive role in society. With a commitment to the equity, diversity and inclusion and the campus’ ‘Inclusive Excellence’ mission, the department works closely with academic departments and support services on campus and with employer and community partners to support students as they work to achieve their academic and co-op/integrated learning aspirations.Reporting to the Assistant Director, Partnerships and External Relations, the Partnerships and Events Officer takes a planned and informed approach to meeting new partnership development targets and achieving partnership goals within a few key industry sectors. The incumbent plays a vital role in the department to ensure that members of Industry Associations, Sectoral Councils, Board of Trade, Chamber of Commerce, Student Work Placement Program (SWPP) funding organizations are made aware of our co-op programs and therefore deepen engagement with our department. The focus of such awareness building and engagement initiatives is that our students have a wide range of quality, paid co-op work term opportunities to apply to.While balancing all stakeholder needs effectively, the primary goal of the position is to develop, nurture and manage strong relationships with industry partners for the purpose of engaging employers who are part of such Industry Associations, Sectoral Councils, Chambers of Commerce and sensitize them to our co-op talent. The Partnerships and Events Officer is responsible for developing and initiating all aspects of new industry partner relationships that strategically support the academic programs within the chosen sectors. Using an analytical and informed approach, the incumbent is responsible for conducting market research to understand the industry sectors assigned to them and identifying target organizations that have large employer representations and thus are a right fit for our co-op jobs. Through sound sales, business development and partnership building techniques, the Partnerships and Events Officer builds their industry partner account base by planning and undertaking first contact with potential new partners and move them in a journey to sign up with Arts and Science Co-op programs as partners. With an ultimate goal of strong retention and partnership expansion, the Partnerships and Events Officer is responsible for maintaining and expanding existing relationships with industry partners.In consultation with the Assistant Director, the incumbent will set an annual plan for their sectors and performance targets both for new partnership development and retention of existing partner organizations whose members have strong co-op job potential each work term.   • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance.
  • Identifying, fostering and maintaining relationships with potential and existing industry partners, sectoral councils and chambers of commerce.
  • Conducting detailed labour market analysis to inform program and partnership development.
  • Conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities (in collaboration with new and existing partners).
  • Developing components of program/projects that supports collaboration and partnerships.
  • Tracking the status of business and partnership development initiatives, activities and outcomes.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a partnership development, sales or business development role.
  • Track record of success in a target driven environment and building client relationships in existing and new market sectors.
  • Strong understanding and experience implementing partnership development life cycle, business development and sales funnel approaches and tracking activities to desired outcome.
  • Proven expertise in planning and implementing online and in person events, including but not limited to venue booking, audio visual, catering, gifts, audience registration, delegate management and event outcome reporting.
  • Experience in market research and analysis, identification of target markets as well as direct sales and relationship development.
  • Motivated through individual planning and target achievement, yet still thrives in a collaborative team-based environment.

  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to effectively balance the needs of multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent presentation skills and the ability to speak to and lead targeted group presentations.

  • Organized, able to prioritize work and multi-task to facilitate a balance of planned execution and adherence to process while still ensuring an efficient pace.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills, with a strong emphasis on influencing skills.
  • Experience using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software such as Salesforce.com.

  • Experience in marketing, developing marketing strategies, and promotional materials.
  • Knowledge of the career services industry and experience within a Co-operative Education or Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) environment.
