  • Research and collect various sources of information to support policy and program development, and participates in Branch policy/program projects as assigned
  • Analyze and evaluate policy/program information and data, using quantitative analysis to synthesize data, identifies issues and trends, and prepares analytical and statistical reports, for review/action
  • Prepare a range of draft analyses, policy/program reports, and briefing materials for use by senior management
  • Liaise with other branches/ministries to discuss research and exchange information, and responds to inquiries from other ministries, levels of government, community groups and agencies
  • Provide advice for operational staff and regional offices regarding the interpretation of ministry policy to address and resolve local issues
How do I qualifyTechnical Knowledge
  • You have knowledge of program and policy development principles and government decision-making processes
  • You have knowledge of program analysis/evaluation techniques to evaluate and assess policies and programs and report on the effectiveness of policy, and contribute to recommendations for policy change
Interpersonal and Consultation Skills
  • You have consultation skills to exchange information, discuss issues, gain support, and liaise with internal and external stakeholders
  • You have interpersonal skills and diplomacy in researching client issues, responding with discretion to external information requests, and to liaise with stakeholders
Analytical, Research and Problem-Solving Skills
  • You can identify and evaluate several sources of data for research purposes, prepare statistical and other quantitative analyses, and design, organize, and present research findings
  • You can plan and conduct research studies, evaluate policies and programs in other jurisdictions, identify trends, directions, best practices, and assess application to provincial/ministry policy and programs
  • You can identify stakeholder issues, define the problem and examine all options, and provide recommendations to support policies developed by senior staff
  • You can prepare and update materials to respond to policy and program related issues, providing advice to ministry staff and senior management
Communication and Computer Skills:
  • You have oral and written communications to respond to information requests, write reports, prepare meaningful analyses, draft correspondence, briefing notes and policy documents for submissions, and prepare a range of communications materials
  • You can prepare briefing notes and presentation materials
  • You have experience using a variety of computer software applications such as spreadsheets, project scheduling and internet to research and prepare materials, and to develop-line communications such as news bulletins
