Job Description

A Post Doctoral Fellow (PDF) position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Cynthia T. Luk at the University of Toronto (Department of Medicine), St. Michael’s Hospital.Our research focuses on the role of cell signaling pathways in adipose tissue in the pathogenesis of diabetes, obesity, atherosclerosis and metabolic syndrome. We use a variety of molecular biology techniques and mouse models of diabetes and atherosclerosis. Potential projects may involve the study of cell-death or fibrosis-related pathways in adipose tissue and their role in glucose homeostasis, metabolism, atherosclerosis or metabolic syndrome.Dr. Luk is an Assistant Professor with a lab that opened in 2017. Our group consists of a senior research technician, graduate and undergraduate student(s). We are located in Toronto, Canada and fully affiliated with Unity Health Toronto, University of Toronto, and Banting and Best Diabetes Centre.Qualified candidates must hold a doctoral degree and have significant experience in molecular biology. Experience with rodent models, qRT-PCR, immunoblotting, histology, cell culture is preferred. Candidates will be responsible for their projects, applying for awards and funding, and will work closely with other members of the lab.   • PhD or MD in related discipline (3 or more years direct research experience)
  • Experience in molecular biology
  • Experience with mouse models of human disease
  • Experience with publishing high-quality manuscripts
  • Experience with research development, execution and analysis
  • Excellent self-motivation, project management skills, critical thinking and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage multiple research projects
  • The successful candidate will be expected to apply for internal and external post-doctoral fellowship awards.
  • Conduct ongoing review of relevant literature to keep up with current knowledge
  • Write manuscripts for publication and presents work at local and international meetings
  • Participate in lab meetings, lab management, and guidance of students
  • Assist and coordinate research grant applications, animal care committee and other required submissions or protocols
  • Maintains a clear knowledge and understanding of research ethics, regulations and policies while remaining in full compliance with all applicable policies for ethical conduct to ensure high quality work
