A Better World.Don’t miss out on the opportunity to work alongside the world’s best in paediatric healthcare.Position DescriptionPost-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Child Health Evaluative Sciences with a focus on Early Determinants of Growth and Development for children using a child health equity lens.We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to join a multidisciplinary research program dedicated to improving growth and developmental outcomes for young children. https://www.targetkids.ca/ . This position is full time under the supervision of Dr. Catherine Birken, Paediatrician and Senior Scientist, Child Health Evaluative Sciences, Sickkids Research Institute, and The S.H. Leong Center Chair in Child Health Intervention https://leongcentre.utoronto.ca/. This is a one-year position, with opportunity for extension to 2-3 years. Start date is to be determined, fall of 2022, preferred.The focus of the work will be analysis of existing data collected for the purpose of examining the impact of individual and family level health, nutrition, lifestyle factors on growth and development in children across the life-course, starting in preconception. Data collection, supported through multiple CIHR grants, started in 2008 and is ongoing with enriched data collection of family data. Data is also linked to administrative data held at IC/ES and school outcomes data collected prospectively. Approaches to support and advance methods and evaluation in engagement and participation of diverse families is a priority. This position will be housed within the TARGet Kids! team, Child Health Evaluative Sciences, and SickKids Research Institute. The post-doctoral fellow requires close collaboration and joint data collection among the team which includes experts in epidemiology, biostatistics, pediatrics, nutrition, physical activity, mental health, cardiometabolic risk, developmental origins of disease, and life-course research.Here’s What You Get to Do:

  • Work as part of a team of clinical researchers and be involved in all aspects of the research process, from engagement with participants, proposal development and data analysis to manuscript writing.
  • Develop projects in collaboration with research team focussing on outcomes for children and parents and as social determinants of health.
  • Supervise and mentor trainees
  • Review and prepare grant applications, abstracts and manuscripts.
  • Translate data into knowledge products such as infographics, abstracts, summaries for various uses including general public and stakeholder engagement.
  • Review data in relation to health equity and disparity principles and comparisons for early determinants of growth.
  • Develop strategies for measuring equity gaps in data collection and analysis
Here’s What You Need:
  • PhD in Epidemiology or
  • PhD in Psychology or Nutrition with experience and working knowledge of epidemiology principles
  • Strong knowledge of quantitative research methodologies (study design and analysis) is required, knowledge of qualitative research methodologies is an asset.
  • Experience in statistics, in longitudinal modeling, and proficiency with R, or SAS
  • Ability to work independently and with a teams
  • Experience with methods in child health equity research
  • Experience with knowledge translation is an asset.
  • Applicant will be expected to apply for external funding support.
