Refer to the "How to apply" section if you require a disability-related accommodation.What can I expect to do in this roleJoin the ministrys core team of agricultural specialists responsible for providing advice and information to Ontario farmers relating to crop and livestock agricultural production (crops and livestock) and business management. The Agriculture Development Branch is involved in key research projects and applying findings from those projects when developing best management practices. The team promotes technical and high-quality agricultural production through the application of best management practices, on-farm quality assurance programs and plant and animal health strategies. The branch also provides business management resources that assist clients with farm business development.As the Agriculture Development Branchs Intern, you have a unique work environment that offers many different experiences ranging from hands-on field scouting work to communications initiatives, stakeholder relationships, and determining research priorities and areas of innovation. You will have the opportunities to:

  • Be a key project contributor to event and conference planning and support, including but limited to:
  • Planning and delivery of the 2023 education program for the Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Convention and support OMAFRA trade-show booth; and
  • Planning and delivery of the 2023 Southwestern Dairy Symposium and OMAFRA trade-show booth.
  • Co-lead the research and development of an Information Management Framework for the branch.
  • Provide program design input affecting crop and livestock programming by supporting the research and programming options under the next Policy Framework that assist crop and livestock productivity.
  • Work directly with horticulture crops specialists to gain field experience scouting for pests and gathering data for collaborative research projects with academia and industry.
This internship position offers a hybrid work arrangementwith the ability to work both remotely (work from home) and within an OMAFRA office. OMAFRA has office locations across the province and the Intern may be able to work from one of the ministrys following offices depending on office space availability and operational feasibility:
  • Ministry Headquarters: 1 Stone Road West, Guelph or 77 Grenville Street, Toronto
  • North Region: Fort Frances, Gore Bay, New Liskeard, Thunder Bay or Verner
  • Central Region: Elora, Midhurst or Simcoe
  • East Region: Brighton, Kemptville or Lindsay
  • Southwest Region: Clinton, London, Ridgetown, Stratford or Woodstock
How do I qualifyMandatory
  • You must have graduated from a college or university, with a degree, diploma or post-graduate certificate, within the past 5 years.
  • You must be an Indigenous person (i.e. First Nations, Métis, Inuit).
