Job Description

Pamela & Paul Austin Centre for Neurology & Behaviour Support at Baycrest has anopportunity for aPSYCHOLOGIST, PERMANENT FULL TIME70 Bi-weekly Hours, Days , No Weekends(shifts may be subject to change)OPSEU 583 Hourly Pay Rate: $55.62 - $70.89Baycrest offers a range of specialist ambulatory services with a focus on dementia, memory care and neurodegenerative disorders. This position will support the Austin Centre Virtual Behavioural Medicine (VBM) program. The VBM program includes Behavioural Support Ontario as a founding collaborative partner. VBM is an innovative, first of its kind program that fundamentally changes the typical approach to patients and their caregivers living with severe dementia behaviours. VBM brings the care directly to the patient with care delivered virtually wherever the patient is located, such as long-term care, an acute care hospital, or the community. The VBM program is in a growth phase and is widely credited for being a system game changer in the provision of care to people living with impacts of the severe behavioural symptoms of dementia. The neuropsychologist in the VBM program is an integral member of the inter-professional team and is an expert in behaviour assessment and non-pharmacological management of dementia related to neurodegenerative brain conditions. This position reports to the Program Director, Neuropsychology and Cognitive Health & Interprofessional Practice Chief.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provides virtual behavioural assessment and behavior support services utilizing a bio- psychosocial framework to the Virtual Behaviour Medicine (VBM) program
  • Provides case-specific training to caregivers in the VBM program
  • Supports transitions from one care setting to another, including specialized inpatient programs, long-term care, and community
  • Provides timely consultative services to the Behaviour Support Outreach Teams (BSOT)
  • Works collaboratively in an interprofessional team environment
  • Provides training to staff and students related to behaviour support
  • Participates in relevant education and research activities
  • Participates in program quality improvement and supports program evaluation activities
  • Ensures the protection of client rights and acting in an advocacy role for the resident/clients
  • Other duties as directed
Qualifications include but are not limited to:
  • Ph.D. in Psychology
  • Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) or American Psychological Association (APA) accredited internship preferred
  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a Psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario
  • Experience/familiarity with behavioural, cognitive, psychosocial, and environmental assessments relating to behavioural and psychiatric symptoms of dementia (BPSD) or responsive behaviours
  • Demonstrated expertise and knowledge of working with individuals with various types of dementia, delirium, and those with acute behavioural changes
  • Training and experience in applied behaviour analysis and behavioural support management approaches including Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) and I.E.C.E.S.
  • Training in or knowledge of U-First! and Dementiability preferred
  • Demonstrated ability and experience conducting clinical research
  • Demonstrated excellent clinical-reasoning, critical thinking and problem solving skills
