A Better World.Don’t miss out on the opportunity to work alongside the world’s best in paediatric healthcare.Position DescriptionSickKids serves a diverse population of patients and families by offering holistic comprehensive services across a wide range of clinical specialities. The Department of Psychology at the Hospital for Sick Children is currently recruiting for a Psychometrist who, under the direction and supervision of a registered psychologist, will carry out the administration, scoring, and data management of all psychometric testing and clinical assessments of children and adolescents (ages 3-18). Specifically, the Psychometrist should have specialized knowledge of test administration of functioning and social-emotional well-being associated with medical diagnosis and treatment within the context of the childs developmental history and family functioning. The psychometrist will primarily work with school-age children and adolescents with a variety of complex medical conditions in the areas of neurology (e.g., epilepsy, inflammatory syndromes, stroke), hematology/oncology, genetics/metabolics, and cardiology. The Psychometrist may also become involved with on-going research projects, including managing the clinical database, and other duties as required.Here’s What You’ll Get to Do

  • Work within a fast-paced environment; efficiently manage, triage, and assess a varied caseload under specific required timelines within a child and family centred approach to care
  • Managing clinical services by maintaining accurate wait lists, contacting families to make clinical appointments, gathering initial referral data and history
  • Under the direction of the Neuropsychologist, carry out neuropsychological assessments to understand a child’s cognitive, behavioural, and social-emotional functioning while considering his/her/their neurodevelopmental and medical/neurological histories.
  • Administering and scoring developmental, cognitive, and neuropsychological assessments for patients and families
  • Observing and reporting on relevant patient behaviour during test sessions and adapts interactions as necessary to work successfully with patient
  • Scoring, norming and summarizing psychological test data based on accurate and efficient scoring procedures as delineated in test manuals
  • Assisting in educating clinical trainees with neuropsychological testing and scoring
  • Keeping up to date with new tests or versions of tests as they become available
  • Managing psychological and clinical databases and ensuring complete and accurate records are kept for future reference, program evaluation and quality assurance
  • Supporting departmental education and contributing to departmental function by serving on committees, mentoring new employees, attending departmental meetings
  • Participating in ongoing and emerging clinical projects as required
  • Ensuring that hospital administrative policy and privacy requirements are adhered to
Here’s What You’ll Need
  • Master Degree in Psychology (Bachelor in Psychology with experience will be considered)
  • Previous neuropsychological testing and assessment experience with children/adolescents
  • Superior critical thinking, organizational and time management skills, and highly attentive to detail
  • Ability to use observational skills to identify issues beyond test scores
  • Demonstrated competency in written and verbal communications
  • Exercising sound judgement, diplomacy, and tact, in interacting with a diverse population.
  • Knowledge and experience with crisis prevention and intervention models
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve, work independently and collaboratively with members of a large interdisciplinary healthcare team
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in culturally competent practice, and extensive understanding of the importance of health equity, diversity, and inclusion in the delivery of healthcare services
  • Excellent interpersonal and decision-making skills
  • Solid experience with database and statistical analysis software (e.g. SPSS, Excel, Dbase) and Proficiency in the use of electronic platforms such as Microsoft Office, hospital documentation systems and other relevant technology
  • Social sensitivity, diplomacy and relationship-building / management
  • Knowledge of child & adolescent psychosocial development and psychopathology; ability to manage challenging behavior and motivate children and adolescents.
  • Ability to multi-task, be flexible and adaptable to changing programme demands
