Job Description

Research Assistant – Sunnybrook Research Institute(Temporary Part-time, 1 year with option to renew)The Sunnybrook Research Institute is seeking 2 energetic, highly motivated individual to work as a Part Time Research Assistant (RA) in the Department of Emergency Services. The successful candidate will be part of a clinical research team, assisting with all aspects of ongoing and upcoming prospective, clinical research studies in the Emergency Department. We are currently conducting studies on motor vehicle collision and delirium on hip fracture patients.Responsibilities

  • Recruitment of study participants (e.g., identifies and screens potential subjects, obtains informed consent, administers questionnaires or other data collection tools) as per Sunnybrook policy and ICH/GCP guidelines.
  • Conducts chart reviews using a standardized data collection tool.
  • Performs follow-up interviews with patients in person or by telephone to collect data using established criteria.
  • Responsible for the accurate and unbiased collection of data, in compliance with study specific protocols.
  • Completes data forms, prepares data for entry and enters data into Redcap, Excel or Access database; identifies any problems with data using assessment skills and reports any abnormalities to Principal Investigator.
  • Reports any significant health or safety concerns regarding team members or study participants to the Principal Investigator and where appropriate, to a health care team member.
  • Potential travel between institutions in Toronto to collect data on study patients following all COVID-19 precautions.
  • Perform other duties as appropriate and necessary for the efficient functioning of the Team.
  • Observe Hospital departmental rules and regulations, policies, procedures, practices and current legislation, in particular the Human Rights Code regarding discrimination and harassment and safety procedures.
  • Ensure that the confidentiality of patient, employee and hospital information is always maintained.
Qualifications:
  • Enrolled in/completed a university undergraduate degree (health field) or equivalent combination of formal education and experience in research.
  • One (1) year direct clinical research experience and ICH/GCP guidelines an asset.
  • Competence in Redcap, Word, Excel, Access as well as database and spreadsheet software and other software packages is an asset.
  • Appreciation and respect for difference in communication styles and the values of older persons.
  • Available to work on weekdays minimum twice a week between 8 – 4pm.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, superior organizational and time management skills and the ability to learn quickly and work independently.
  • TCP2 Certification is required (must be completed within 3 months of hiring)
