Job Description

HeLTI Canada (www.helticanada.ca) is a unique longitudinal CIHR-funded randomized controlled trial developed in partnership with the World Health Organization and is one of four separate but harmonized studies focused on developing evidence-based interventions that span from preconception across pregnancy and into the postpartum period and early childhood. The purpose of HeLTI Canada is to evaluate whether technology-based care can improve the health of families at preconception, during pregnancy, and into early childhood and promote child development while preventing obesity and chronic diseases. The HeLTI Canada study started recruitment of 5,300 families in January 2021 and data collection and coordination efforts continue to grow.The HeLTI Canada team is seeking a temporary casual Research Assistant to join the Mothering Transitions Research Program at the St. Michaels Hospital to provide organization and administrative support. Tasks may include collecting and recording data, limited processing of data, basic laboratory procedures (if applicable), screening of study participants (if applicable), labeling and shipping samples and study related material.Duties and Responsibilities:Clerical/Support (30% of work time)

  • Limited processing of data
  • Present research related information, including written study reports when necessary
  • Insert collected data in an electronic based survey database
Research Activities (70% of work time)
  • Attend training and supervision sessions
  • Recruit participants at the selected study sites
  • Collect data via phone calls, interviews
  • Screen data for study inclusion according to protocol
  • If applicable, assessment of potential serious adverse events and notification of study sponsor, physician and appropriate authorities
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:
  • Preferably Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Psychology
  • Preferably with 5 years related research experience
  • Meticulous and capable of independent decision making with study data
  • Basic computer skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical and scientific terminology
  • Progressively responsible experience in a clerical position
  • Excellent communication (verbal/written) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to learn new skills
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner and flexibility to adapt to changing workload
  • Ability to keep written records
  • Ability to understand written and verbal directions
