Job Description

We are looking to hire Researchers with Lived Experience (RWLE) to support a new research project. The position is open to people with lived experience of drug use living in Ontario. You do not have to have prior experience in research to apply for this position. We will offer training for the position.Researchers with Lived Experience will support our community-based research study entitled SCCONE, which stands for Supervised Consumption during COVID-19 in Ontario: An Evaluation. This study will ask the following questions:

  • What are the best models for supervised consumption sites
  • How can supervised consumption sites be sustained over time
  • What are the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the operation of supervised consumption sites
  • What would be the impact of scaling up or scaling down consumption services in Ontario
  • How can supervised consumption sites address barriers to using sites for specific groups, including:
    • People who are racialized
    • People who are Indigenous
    • Women
    • Members of LGBTQI2S communities
    • People who use stimulants.
More information on the study can be found by clicking this link: http://maphealth.ca/sccone/Researchers with Lived Experience will be paid for their work on the study, including training, data collection and meetings. Compensation will be based on host organization rates. This work will take place during 2023.Researchers with Lived Experience may work on-site if they are already working in communities or remotely if physical distancing restrictions are in place. The study team will also provide RWLE with ongoing support throughout the study, including phone and internet access as needed.Summary of Duties:The work will involve working with people who use drugs and who use supervised consumption sites. Specific tasks include:
  • Obtaining informed consent from study participants
  • Giving surveys to study participants
  • Interviewing study participants
  • Storing and managing data
  • Participating in team meetings
  • Communicating with the study team
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
  • Graduate of community college or relevant experience
  • Able to understand written and verbal directions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • The Researcher with Lived Experience role requires a time commitment of approximately 132 hours between January and April 2023 (the end date may need to be adjusted based on coordinating interviews).
