Job Description

Hooked Inc. is the knowledgeable fish store where the key to everything is respect.Respect for our team and customers.Respect for our fishers, fish farmers and their communities.Respect for the fish we choose to buy and how we handle that fish.We are looking for fish lovers who want to learn and grow with our Teams at one of our 3 locations;Leslieville - 888 Queen St. E.Kensington Market - 206 Baldwin St.South Kingsway - 18 Ripley Ave.What the job is all about: Our Retail Fishmongers take care of our customers and provide excellent service to assist them with what they need, why they need it and how they prepare fish and seafood. Our Teams provide an informative positive experience for our customers and maintain efficient store operations.Responsibilities and duties include:

  • Ensuring our products are displayed and stored according to the appropriate temperature and conditions for fish, seafood and grocery merchandise
  • Learning to filet and handle fish responsibly within Hooked parameters
  • Working within strict sanitation parameters in managing a perishable inventory
  • Learning the ecology, biology and issues surrounding both wild and responsibly farmed fish
  • Participating in the creation and maintenance of a clean and healthy work environment, abiding to a strong discipline of health, safety and hygiene
  • Operating the POS system and processing payments
  • Properly stocking and merchandising all products within the store and storage areas
Our ideal candidate has:
  • A love of food, fish, shellfish and cooking
  • Warm and professional customer service skills with a strong attention to detail
  • FOH/BOH restaurant experience and/or retail experience
  • Interest in learning Hooked fish cooking techniques and fisheries ecology
  • Be able to lift boxes of 30-50lbs
  • Be able to work weekends
  • Desire to learn
  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification required
  • Wants to work in the food industry with a good life/work balance
