The company is co-located in San Francisco and Toronto and is part of the UK-based Ocado Group plc.About this role:As a Mechatronics Engineer on the Robotics Hardware Team, you will help us create the most advanced robots for our customers. You will work closely with other disciplines (Software, AI, ML, Product, etc.) designing subsystems for complex robotic systems.You will own critical portions of new projects in end of arm tooling and robotic system design. You will work closely with our Robotics Software and Platform Teams to ensure that the designs you create integrate into our larger system design.This role requires you to work from the office at least 2 days a week, once it is safe to do so.What you’ll bring: Ability to iterate quickly and demonstrate new concepts through fast prototypes of your designDesign and build motion and sensor assemblies (e.g. sensor integrations, motion stages, mechanism design)Fully competent in major CAD packages (e.g. Altium, Solidworks, etc)Knowledge of and experience designing with sensors, pneumatics, motors, PCB packaging and other electromechanical componentsAble to design for both traditional and rapid manufacturing methodsExperience selecting and integrating motors (BLDC, stepper, etc) and motor controllersBonus Qualifications:5+ years as an engineer in a related industryApplicable skills in at least one of the following areas: end effector (EOAT) design, industrial automation, robotic work cellsPneumatic system experience (e.g. valving and instrumentation)Experience with analog electrical equipment (e.g. specifying cables, connectors, panel layouts, NFPA79)Automated test fixture creation (e.g. PLC programming experience)Experience programming embedded systems (ARM, PIC, etc)Experience designing PCBs that integrate sensors, signal conditioning, and common hardware interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, etc)Practical experience designing systems for EMC
