Oliver & Bonacini Restaurants is looking for a Sommelier for Canoe!One of the most coveted positions in the city this position is responsible for the management of the wine list, while controlling costs and maintaining wine inventory appropriately. The Sommelier will interact with guests by sharing food knowledge and pairing recommendations. They will also assist with management of day to day operations of the restaurant including staffing, cost controls, training and development, budgeting and active floor management during service, all while ensuring emotional service and culinary excellence.Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working with the head sommelier to manage the overall wine vision
  • Management of wine inventory, costing, ordering and tasting new product
  • Assist with management of day to day operations of the restaurant and active floor management during service
  • Maintain wine and beverage inventory while effectively controlling costs
  • Lead guests through interesting and diverse wine lists, and ensure excellent guest service by providing insightful and exciting wine pairing recommendations during lunch and dinner service
  • Lead staff training and development in the areas of wine service, food pairings, and overall service excellence
  • Work together with the Chef and kitchen team to create creative and inspiring wine and food pairing for a continually changing tasting menu
  • Continue to keep well informed of industry trends and product innovation and develop relationships with suppliers and external networks by attending tastings and industry events
  • Perform opening and closing responsibilities

  • More than 2 year of sommelier experience in a fine dining environment
  • Two years of restaurant management experience, preferably in an upscale fine dining environment
  • Sommelier designation is required
  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in Business or Hospitality considered an asset
  • Passion for food, wine and culinary excellence
  • Strong business and financial acumen
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a large and variable work load, ensuring timely and accurate superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
