Job Description

Join our team in our mission to continue to put patients and families at the centre of everything we do, in the role of Speech Language Pathologist.We are seeking an experienced clinician to provide services to adults in acute care with communication and swallowing impairments. The successful candidate will work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team with patients across the units of the hospital, including but not limited to trauma, cardiovascular, neurology/stroke, and critical care.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:The primary role of a Speech-Language Pathologist is to provide clinical and instrumental evaluation of swallowing and communication disorders and to provide management of these disorders. This includes coordinating & consulting with other relevant team members as needed, and providing ongoing education, counseling & training as appropriate to staff, patient/family and other caregivers to manage the disorder(s).

  • Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff, and members of the academic and professional community
  • Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families
  • Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care
  • Is committed to, and participates in, ongoing quality improvement in the organization
  • Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must hold a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of one year experience preferred in swallowing & communication assessment & management, especially in acute care.
  • Must be currently licensed by and in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) for practice in all applicable clinical areas.
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills
  • Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to patient care
  • Experience with videofluoroscopy and holds current certification or is willing to obtain training in Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBSImp) training.
  • Experience with assessment and management of communication and swallowing in patients with tracheostomy tubes.
  • A team-oriented approach combined with strong communication skills are essential.
  • Excellent attendance record.
