Job Description

Unity Health Toronto, comprised of Providence Healthcare, St. Joseph’s Health Centre and St. Michael’s Hospital, works to advance the health of everyone in our urban communities and beyond. Join our St. Michaels team in the mission to put patients and families at the centre of everything we do, in the role of Speech-Language Pathologist.The Speech-Language Pathology Team is a dynamic service across all hospital programs. We are seeking experienced clinicians to provide assessment and management for medicine and surgical adult patients with swallowing and communication disorders. This role will work primarily weekend shifts on a casual basis, with the availability to pick up additional shifts to provide clinical coverage during staff absences on weekdays, if interested.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:The primary role of a Speech-Language Pathologist is to provide evaluation and management of swallowing and communication disorders. This includes coordinating and consulting with other relevant team members as needed, and providing ongoing education, counseling, and training as appropriate to staff, patients, families, and other caregivers to manage the disorder(s).

  • Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff, and members of the academic and professional community
  • Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families
  • Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care
  • Is committed to and participates in ongoing quality improvement in the organization
  • Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must hold a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology (or equivalent)
  • Must be currently licensed by and in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) for practice in all applicable clinical areas.
  • Minimum of two years experience preferred in swallowing and communication assessment and management in acute care.
  • Experience with assessment and management of communication and swallowing for medical-surgical patients of various disease presentation, and with tracheostomy tubes.
  • Experience with videofluoroscopy and holds current certification or is willing to obtain training in Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBSImp) training.
