Job Description

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Torontos subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.At Metrolinx, equity, diversity and inclusion are essential to living our values of serving with passion, thinking forward and playing as a team.Our Strategic Talent Management, HR Service Delivery and Client Services offices within Human Resources are looking for three Strategic Advisors to provide executive support to the respective Vice Presidents by advising and recommending actions on a variety of topics related to policy, programs, and communications as well as coordinating special projects.What can I expect to do in this roleWhat will I be doing

  • Work collaboratively with the other Strategic Consultants, the Manager & Senior Advisor to the Chief Human Resources Officer and the Human Resources Leadership Team on policy, projects and contentious or emerging issues; provide subject matter expertise and advice to assist with planning to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Lead and manage the divisional issues management process and triage, analyze and formulate options to resolve, contentious or sensitive issues impacting the division.Ensure the quality and timeliness of all briefing materials, submissions, correspondence and responses coming from the division.
  • Prepare, research, develop and disseminate information (e.g. policy, correspondence, key issues/briefing materials) and communicate ideas related to broad departmental initiatives and topics.
  • Review, develop, and maintain communication strategies and plans. Prepare communications, identify risks and assess impacts on company reputation; advise and counsel on corrective course of action.
  • Respond to enquiries, provide advice, and make decisions in accordance with established legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Write briefing notes, prepare presentations, and compile awards submissions.
  • Oversee and coordinate initiatives across the division and support transformation and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as main liaison with CHROs office on divisional matters.
How do I qualifyWhat Skills and Qualifications Do I Need
  • Completion of a degree in Human Resources, Communications, Political Science, Public Administration, or a related field or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Minimum six (6) years progressive experience providing strategic communications and/or issues advice to senior executives in the public or private sector, demonstrated experience in crisis and emergency response planning, response and management.
  • Experience with change management initiatives, strategic issues management, planning techniques, and methods and practices to develop communication plans.
  • Project management experience to track, coordinate, manage, and monitor simultaneous projects and monitor project performance results.
  • Interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills, political acuity, initiative, tact and diplomacy skills to manage the identification and response to contentious and time sensitive issues/problems pertaining to media relations, issues management, public announcements and crisis communications activities.
  • Ability to build constructive and effective relationships, and work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to build consensus or influence decisions.
  • Ability to work in fast paced and cross functional environment and understand a variety of issues, government communications process and privacy laws and provision in sharing personal/confidential/sensitive information.
  • Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills to develop and implement communication plans and materials and respond to communications and media relations issues.
