Further information is available at www.bgis.comSUMMARYThe Sustainability and Compliance Manager is responsible for contributing to the identification of project opportunities, solution development and program coordination during the implementation stage as related to Sustainability. Additionally, the role assists in overseeing occupational health, safety and environmental issues concerning BGIS or its clients to minimize liability, ensure due diligence, ensures compliance with government legislation and fulfillment of contractual environmental health & safety requirements.The role requires a person with passion and experience in real estate sustainability. They should be a combination of influencer, advisor and facilitator of corporate action in CRE practices. This role will include activities across the CRE portfolio, which includes extensive real estate portfolio of Retail and Corporate spaces, across Canada and the United States primarily.KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESSustainability Activities

  • Manage development and integration of Sustainable Standards for Design and Construction, Environmental Management Systems, Waste Management and Circularity in business practices for the client’s Corporate Real Estate group.
  • Liaise with and work closely with cross-functional teams, including Strategy, Leasing, Design, Project Management, Engineering and Facilities Management to execute on Corporate Sustainability and ESG commitments, and act as a subject matter expert.
  • Support in the development and activation of sustainability tools that measure, track and predict progress and priorities, and streamline ways of working.
  • Collaborate with communications team and Corporate Sustainability Office for quarterly or annual reports.
  • Support delivering sustainability reporting used to meet KPI’s and contract deliverables.
  • Generate professional reports for sustainability assessments.
  • Support client sustainability initiativeobjectives and assist on strategic vision.
  • Provide input to and support action plans to increase customer satisfaction.
  • Assist in development of ESG and/or CSR metrics, data and reporting.
Compliance Activities
  • Work to ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and fulfillment of contractual environmental, health and safety requirements.
  • Support and provide recommendations on HSE matters at all levels of the organization.
  • Provide council on environmental, health and safety matters for all Team Members.
  • Develop, manage and improve related internal audit program for all contracts including the reporting of results.
  • Develop, manage and improve related corporate training programs.
  • Oversee development and reporting of key safety metrics and related reports.
  • Responsible for working with line management to address health and safety issues and document these in non-conformance issues. If significant issues still remain uncorrected, managers must escalate these within the HSE Department for further discussion and resolution.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Minimum 5 years experience in sustainability in a related field such as architecture, engineering, construction, building operations and management in Canada/US or North America.
  • Some knowledge of environmental, health and safety.
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental studies, architecture, engineering or other related discipline.
  • Knowledge of environmental impacts of design, construction and operation of real estate and sustainable practices.
  • High level understanding of Greenhouse Gas quantification and Science-Based Targets.
  • An effective leader that can impact across the organization with strong communications skills and technical proficiency. Work experience in related fields and passion are a must.
  • Operating across a series of functions, has a strong business understanding and is a skilled communicator, able to make the subject and topics relevant for the different functions, and at different levels in the company.
  • Knowledge in LEED, WELL, BOMA BEST, and other sustainability metrics.
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel. Strong MS Word skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with high levels of client interaction.
  • Strong administrative skills including documentation standards and project management.
  • Knowledge of facility management services would be beneficial.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
  • WELL or LEED accreditation would be an asset.
