We get stuff done, and have fun doing it!We take great pride in contributing to the communities where we live with an ever-constant eye to the global investment markets.As the Pension Systems Solution Developer, you will be joining the Pension Systemsteam within Products and Technology.In this role you will be responsible for understanding the existing Pension Systems’ architecture and will be accountable for PL/SQL development, Unix shell script development and creating design documentation to be used for development and testing. The successful candidate will support the architects and team leaders, working closely with analysts, designers, developers and testers, utilizing leadership skills in delivering large and complex designs. In addition, the candidate will, occasionally, take the role of Pension System’s project leader or provide assistance to colleagues taking that role.As a member of this team, you will be responsible for: Analyze highly complex business requirements; generate technical specifications to design complex software components and applicationsMaintain detailed understanding of OMERS pension and financial business, and the various systems and relevant operational processesUnderstand the Pension Systems’ application and Legacy data models. Cooperate with the Data Modeler when the model changes as necessaryDevelop large and complex designs, being accountable for the quality and timeliness of the deliverablesDevelopment and the delivery of the system changes, enhancements, new tools, modules, systems and subsystems that are to meet the business requirementsCommunicate with other team members (analysts, designers and Quality assurance) to cross-reference functionality back to systems specifications and develop solutions as problems or issues ariseDeveloping and implementing design standards, guidelines and compliance criteriaPerforming design and code walkthroughs to assure better quality of the projects’ deliverables. Provide assistance and mentoring to the team members, as well as support to the developers and testers throughout the project lifecycle using established guidelinesCreating conceptual designs. Working with analysts on the feasibility and workability of the conceptual designs by evaluating technical and business requirement specifications prepared by the analysts to meet the specific business needsCreate detailed design documentation and design artifacts for specific projects or change requests, which may include UI screens, reports, back-end business logic designs/specifications, and possibly, Entity Models, Sequence diagrams, wire-frame screen prototypes and other various charts and diagrams that indicate the various components involvedEnsuring processes and standards adherence, improvement and proliferation according to the industry best practicesResponsible for coordinating and delivering Pension System projects from, and including, creation of the detail designs, to the delivery of the software and deployment artifacts into productionAccountable for the overall quality and usability of Pension Systems design post-deployment.Assisting in Testing phase for defect resolution and technical issuesAssisting in environmental and Support issuesTo succeed in this role, you have:A team player with outstanding leadership, interpersonal and communication skills. Able to effectively direct the work of other designers when necessaryUniversity degree (Computer Science, Engineering or Mathematics preferred), other University degrees will be consideredA minimum of 10 years of experience with SQL, PL/SQL, UNIX shell scripting and Oracle Reports. Extensive general knowledge about Relational Database Management SystemsExperience with PowerBuilder development toolGood pension and financial knowledgeKnowledge of transaction/business-process/e-business-request driven architectures and data models is valuableProactive and results-oriented with good time management skills and the ability to work well under pressureAble to grasp complex concepts. Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability. Detail orientedHighly competent with information technology tools and databases.
