The candidates we’re looking for are technically skilled, passionate, data-driven, outcome-focused, and put the customer first by helping drive thoughtful experiences.What you will be doing:

  • Provide technical leadership to a team of Back-End developers to design, develop and deliver micro services to maintain mobile app self-serve and commerce capabilities
  • Efficiently write reliable, clean, understandable, and testable code
  • Be accountable for end-to-end delivery of new features and enhancements to the Rogers and Fido apps (iOS and Android)
  • Provide estimates and participate in high level solutioning
  • Guide the team of back-end developers through coaching, code reviews, documentation and evolve the CI/CD, devops, and cloud-native development practices to maturity.
  • Maintain and evolve current technologies in use; Java services on SpringBoot deployed using Azure Kubernetes, Play/Akka services, and others.
  • Work closely with your iOS and Android peers to plan deliverables, ensure consistency in delivery and share lessons learned
  • Implement processes, best practices, and tools allow for multiple paths of delivery. i.e., create simplified, consistent, reusable, efficient and flexible solutions
  • Recommend improvements and drive alignment across the Digital landscape for Rogers and Fido
  • Support and mentor team members through knowledge sharing, collaboration and effective problem solving
  • Manage, negotiate, and coordinate with technology, and business stakeholders on prioritization of tactical and strategic technology initiatives, as well as monitor the entire project process
  • Evolve code quality standards based on best practices, to ensure correctness of deliverables and sustainability of the code base
  • Exemplify strong development culture and improve developer experience
What you will bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline
  • 3+ years of experience leading development teams and co-ordinating deliveries across many verticals towards a common delivery
  • 8+ years of experience with back-end coding in an Agile environment (following processes, rituals, and standards of Scrum/Kanban/SAFe)
  • Strong technical thinking and demonstrated ability to lead software design and coding in at least one modern programming language such as Java, C#, C/C++, Ruby, Python, Angular, React or JavaScript.
  • Strong knowledge of key technical concepts such as modern backend applications, cloud-based systems (Azure), web services, Kubernetes (AKS) and container frameworks, etc.
  • Strong organizational and estimation skills with ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional customer relationship skills including the ability to recommend alternative technical and business approaches.
  • Excellent communication (oral/written) and presentation to senior leadership is a definite asset
  • Mobile front end (iOS and Android) development is an asset.
