Job Description

A new age in healthcare technology has just begun.OverviewThe primary purpose of this role is to take on more complex writing assignments and project management responsibilities. The Technical Writer has an excellent working knowledge of the tools and writing skills needed to develop documentation deliverables. This person has excellent planning skills, leadership skills and manages large and complex projects and supervision by the Development Manager is minimal. The incumbent can identify problems and offer solutions and has the initiative to be proactive in taking on and mastering increasing responsibilities.This is a Remote role in Canada.Responsibilities

  • Understands the product delivery life cycle and monitors documentation progress within it
  • Develops new documentation following Tech Publication standards and maintains existing documentation
  • Project planning
  • Advanced writing skills
  • Ability to work on multiple deliverables simultaneously
  • Ability to meet deadlines consistently
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all colleagues at all levels and teams
  • Ability to identify and escalate issues
  • Demonstrated understanding of correct grammar, syntax, and spelling
  • Intermediate to advanced competence in major documentation tools
  • Ability to assist others with documentation tool issues and instruct on their use
  • Ability to assist with documentation delivery activities
  • Ability to mentor others
  • Actively participates in documentation planning processes
  • Performs increasingly more complex peer editing for the team documentation
  • Understands and develops application process workflows beyond documenting features and functions
  • Works diplomatically and effectively with subject matter experts and program and product managers in resolving issues
  • Participates and interacts as a collaborative member in all project team meetings and suggests enhancements
  • Facilitates documentation walkthrough meetings with project team members when needed
  • Understands the overall features of the product and has advanced comprehension of the application(s) to which they are assigned including the relationship to other applications
  • Uses defect tracking to report defects or suggest enhancements to the product
  • Keeps the release coordinator informed of progress or is a release coordinator and completes all estimating and scoping worksheets as needed
  • Continues ongoing training in technical communication
QualificationsAcademic and Professional Qualifications:One of the following is required:
  • Bachelors degree preferably in one of the following disciplines: Technical communication, English, or Journalism
  • Technical Communication certification from an educational institution
Experience:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • 4-6 years of full-time technical writing in a software development environment
  • Experience working with DITA is required.
  • Experience working with a content management system preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, decision-making, and time management skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple issues and projects.
  • Project management experience, preferred.
Travel Requirements:
  • May require limited travel for business needs
Working Arrangements:
