The TTCs recruitment efforts are directly aligned to its mission of providing "a reliable, efficient, and integrated bus, streetcar and subway system that draws its high standards of customer care from our rich traditions of safety, service and courtesy."JOB INFORMATIONTwo positions report out of Greenwood Yard working night shift with various off days (Thursday/Friday) or one position out of Wilson Yard working day shift with Thursday/Friday as off days, which may vary as directed by work assignments.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Work involves the safe and efficient operation of specialized and non-specialized non-revenue rail vehicle operation of the production tie tamper and various rail work cars
  • The work entails the operation of the production tie tamper for levelling, lining and stabilizing segments of open cut mainline and yard track right-of-way within the subway and surface track system
  • When the production tie tamper is unavailable, you will operate specialized and non-specialized workcars for the delivery of tools, materials and equipment to track construction sites, work and subway locations; loading and unloading cargo and pushing and/or pulling non-powered cars, etc.
  • The work also involves the performance of daily service checks on the vehicles operated and performing Track Maintainer duties or assisting with a wide variety of manual track construction duties when a vehicle is not available or required to be operated or on an as required basis
  • Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within the area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE
  • You require training obtained through the completion of Grade 12 education or its recognized equivalent as determined by the Training Department
  • Must be able to comprehend verbal and written instructions as demonstrated by an ability to understand and follow published operating/safety rules and regulations
  • Must be able to speak clearly in order to exchange information and instructions with the Control Centres and follow proper radio and telephone protocol
  • Must have an understanding of computer operations and be able to operate a computer terminal
  • Must have successfully completed the Track Maintainer training program and the Workcar Operator Trainee program
  • Must possess a valid non-probationary Class “G” Province of Ontario Driver’s Licence, and you must pass a vision test and an established pre-test set by the Training Department
  • As the successful candidate, you must attend and successfully complete training programs for the operation of the production tie tamper and various workcars such as Tie Tamper, Flatcar Trailer, Vacuum car, and driving the special purpose crane cars, power cut monitor and power cut, Subway/SRT initial, first aid, C.P.R., WHMIS and the TTC’s respiratory protection program, as required
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
