Job Description

Total Rewards is made up of Benefits, Compensation, Payroll and Pension areas that bring innovative practices from industry and health care jurisdictions into the context of Unity’s Human Resources Department. The primary role of Total Rewards is to research, establish, maintain, evaluate and implement a wide range of comprehensive and competitive compensation and benefits programs, structures and systems to assist in attracting, retaining, promoting and developing employees of high quality, ability and potential.The primary role of the HR Counsellor is to provide expert advice and consultation to all staff related to benefits and pension administration. The advice provided is consistent with a high quality employee care and service excellence, as it relates to the employee’s work life, from the onset of their on-boarding until their separation from the organization. This role ensures a high level of accuracy when processing and investigating transactions (new hire, transfers, terminations, leaves, changes in benefits, etc.). The Counsellor ensures that benefits and pension are administered in accordance with Government Legislation, Plan Texts, Master Contracts, HR Policies and Union Contracts.Main Responsibilities:Behaves as a Subject Matter Expert/Primary Resources, as it pertains to legislation, policies, procedures, benefits and pension.Services all queries or requests regarding life event change with confidentiality; resolves issues using strong problem solving and critical thinking skills while maintaining proactive contact with employee;Responds to non-routine and ad hoc questions from team members, in a timely manner;Provides onsite support to employees on matters relating to their work life and clarification/ interpretation of HR policies and procedures related to benefits, HOOPP, leaves and retirement/exits.Determines and identifies eligibility of benefits and pension plans as it relates to clients needs and eligibilityAssesses employee needs throughout the inquiry process, providing information, within scope of authority;Provides information/recommendations to employees based on their comprehensive knowledge and situationCompletes action forms for transactions related to leaves, retirements, life event changes, benefits changes and severances with a high level of accuracy;Prioritizes and processes transactions by collecting required information / backup documentation, including probing for additional information, and performing data entry in HR systems; and third party systems where necessary. Ensuring that the flow of information is accurate across all applications, and adjusting any discrepancies.Reviews documentation ensuring the new employee/transferring employee completes all relevant documents related to benefits enrollment and pension.Working with Corporate Health and HRBP regarding sick leave, utilizing knowledge of sick leave policies to facilitate the process and administer long term disability plansAccountable for conducting audits on a biweekly basis to ensure accuracy of all data before moving to pay for processing.Qualifications:Undergraduate Degree in Human Resources or Business, or other if combined with Post- Graduate Certificate.CHRP designation an asset/preferred (or working towards completion);5+ years or more of overall Human Resources (HR) and Technical knowledge, with 2-3 years working specifically as a content expert within either benefits, recruitment, total rewards, labour/employee relations, HRIS, etc., required;Experience interpreting and applying HR policies, processes and legislationCollaborative and critical thinker required;Good understanding of HR systems, MS office suite and other tools to implement efficiencies in process and team resources, to enter data, etc. required;other tools required;Strong team player and independent worker required;Strong customer service skills, high level of integrity and ethics required;Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal with change effectively in a team environment required;Excellent organizational and teamwork skills required;High degree of analytical, planning and balanced decision making skills required;Proven ability to diffuse conflict and maintain a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism required;Ability to learn continually and update skill set, through the completion of courses, new legislation and other HR governing bodies required;Ability to work in a fast paced, ever-changing environment while maintaining consistency of approach required.Quick Apply
