For all positions, work reporting locations will vary as dictated by work assignments.The successful candidates will be classified as Track Maintainer Trainee for a period of 9 months, during which time the applicable training will be given. Upon successful completion of classroom and on-the-job training, candidates will be classified as a Track Maintainer (Wage Group 5).KEY ACCOUNTABILITIESLearning the performance of small equipment operation, and regular labour work, associated with the maintenance and construction of track, loading platforms, the installation of tangent and special track-work, the placement of concrete or other paving materials, and the installation of drains.Learning a variety of work pertaining to electrical and manual switch mechanisms.Operating truck or special-purpose vehicles to transport tools, supplies, and personnel to and from work sites.A respirator is a mandatory requirement; human rights accommodations on the type of respirator may be provided.Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCECompletion of Grade 10 education or its equivalent through practical experienceMust have a valid non-probationary Class “G” or better driver’s license issued by the Province of OntarioMust be able to obtain a class “DZ” licenseAbility to work cooperatively and effectively within a teamAbility to complete work safely within tight time constraintsExcellent interpersonal skillsAbility to follow directions and exercise good judgmentExercise initiative in learning new skills, identifying and completing tasksAbility to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, such as operating/safety rules and regulationsRequired to attend and successfully complete training programs for Surface Rule Book certification and truck driving operationsMust have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employeesCommitment to health, safety, and inclusion in the workplaceThe TTC is committed to upholding the values of equity, diversity, anti-racism and inclusion in the delivery of its services and in its workplaces.
