Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. If you can relate, we want to hear from you!Our Investigation & Intelligence Office is seeking applications to create a talent pool for the position of Customer Protective Services Communications Operators (Dispatcher) for full-time positions. Transit Safety Communications Operators provide communication services to support the protection of the fare system and the operation of the Customer Protective Services Office.What will I be doingProvides consistent, effective, and prompt communication services to the Safety and Security Division of Metrolinx.Receives requests for service from the general public, various departments/divisions, external agencies and various stakeholders.Dispatch Customer Protective Services personnel to calls for service throughout the Metrolinx operating area.Acts as primary point of communications for Customer Protective Services field staff in support of investigation processes or events (including providing vital information to officers by conducting CPIC, ARIS and record checks).Initiates Police, Fire and Ambulance response.Maintains accurate call-taking and dispatch logs/reports.Assists in maintaining officer safety by means of UHF radio communication, telecommunications hardware and CCTV systems.Receives and/or redirects general inquiries and complaints from the public.Assists in the protection and review of CCTV video recordings when directed.Handles and receives sensitive and confidential information.What skills and qualifications do I needPost Secondary college certificate in Emergency Telecommunications, or a combination of education and experience deemed equivalent.A minimum of twelve (12) months related dispatching / communications experience dealing directly with employees, the general public and police, where timeliness of decisions are critical (i.e. in the police, emergency services or logistics field).Must be able to pass an Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.) fingerprint clearance security as well as Cobourg Police Service security background check for the purposes of accessing the C.P.I.C. and P.A.R.I.S. information system.Pervious experience in a security or Police based dispatch center would be considered an asset.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Must be able to pass a typing test. Must be able to pass the Criticall Public Safety Communicator test. Must successfully complete environmental, safety and any other training required by corporate policy.Must have a working knowledge of computers including word processing and spreadsheet applications.Must be proficient in the use of internet/intranet search techniques to access information.Emergency First Aid certification would be considered an asset.Must successfully complete environmental, safety and any other training required by corporate policy.Available Shifts: Must be prepared to work on a 24-hour rotating shift basis (including days, afternoons, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays).Working Conditions:Duties for this position include sitting for a fixed and extended period of time. Position requires use of computerized and audio/visual equipment. Considerable mental concentration is required, and sound judgements must be made often and quickly in stressful situations.Accommodation:Accommodation will be provided throughout the hiring process, as required.
