As an EA Planner/ Team Lead, you will promote and provide professional consulting services in support of Municipal Class environmental assessments (MCEA’s), Master Environmental Servicing Plans (MESPs), Secondary Plans and Transportation Master Plans (TMPs) for municipal engineering (roads, linear and vertical servicing) and transportation planning projects.Responsibilities:

  • Coordination with Directors of Roads & Transportation, Water/Wastewater & Stormwater Management groups to build an EA Team and expand the profile of the company's EA capabilities.
  • Lead the proposal efforts for the EA Team.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant legislation and issues.
  • Lead or participate in:
  • Public consultation activities, including coordination of Open Houses.
  • Creating display panels for public meetings.
  • Creating PowerPoint presentations for public meetings.
  • The preparation of project documentation, such as Environmental Study Reports,
  • Attending client progress and stakeholder meetings as required and preparing meeting minutes or reports.
  • Communicate with clients and approval agencies, including drafting letters and Notices for public circulation and coordinating mail out of correspondence, and drafting response letters to review agencies.
  • Management/oversight of sub-consultants, and reviewing sub-consultant reports and cross-referencing to policy and legislation guidelines.
  • Participates with senior management in promotional activities for the company, including proposal writing for new projects.
Qualifications:
  • A post-secondary education in environmental planning, environmental policy, environmental science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 - 10 years project experience in Environmental Assessment/Planning in municipal infrastructure and transportation field.
  • Experience in preparing studies in support of Class EA’s, Secondary Plans, etc.
  • Knowledge of provincial EA legislation under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, including but not limited to:
  • Class EA process, (Municipal, GO Transit, MTO),
  • Federal EA legislation, and,
  • The Planning Act.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to noise, cultural heritage, air quality, land use, species at risk, etc. and permitting/approvals.
  • Experience with regulatory agencies and key stakeholders (MNRF, MOECC, Conservation Authorities, Transport Canada, Parks Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada);
  • Experience with Indigenous Community /Consultation/Engagement an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work well with people (staff and clients) and a demeanor that reflects genuine interest and ability to assess a situation and consider what people will be interested in/concerned with is required.
  • Strong time management and organization skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Capable of producing high quality work under tight timelines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, i.e. ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues, associates, and clients.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Capable of working both independently and in a team environment, and able to complete tasks accurately and efficiently with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Fluency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project PowerPoint).
