Join our team and be part of helping our students take the lead not only into the future, but today.Lakeland College is seeking a visionary, strategic and innovative leader to join the President’s Senior Leadership Team as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Reporting directly to the President, the CFO has overall responsibility for providing leadership, management, and strategic planning for a broad range of financial functions, and financial services personnel, and ensuring alignment with the mission, vision, values, and goals of the College. The CFO oversees financial services/operations, budget and strategic financial planning, internal and external financial reporting, procurement and contract management, investments, the bookstore, enterprise risk management, insurance, and legislative compliance.The incumbent will be an integral, active participant in the overall management of the College as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and, in consultation with the President, will provide strategic financial advice and information to the Board of Governors.This leader is a strong communicator with an analytical mind, and excellent leadership and organizational skills.Key ResponsibilitiesThe CFO is responsible for three key activities;

  • Financial and budget oversight
  • Enterprise risk and compliance
  • Advising the senior leadership team
  • The CFO ensures the accuracy of all internal and external financial reporting including:
  • the College’s financial statements
  • budget submission to the Alberta Government
  • internal and external forecast and variance reporting
  • program costing
  • key financial performance metrics for the Board of Governors
Other responsibilities of the CFO include;
  • Chairing the College’s Enterprise Risk Management Committee and the Environmental Risk Committee
  • Leading budget strategy and development, and providing advice on the resolution of budget issues
  • Providing the College’s Enterprise Risk Management and Legislative Compliance Reports to the Audit Risk and Sustainability Committee for approval, and providing assurance to the Committee that the College’s internal control framework over financial reporting is up-to-date and key controls are operating as intended
  • Serving as the primary liaison for financial matters with the Alberta Government and the Office of the Auditor General
  • Ensuring the College has a cost-effective financial information system that meets all primary operating requirements and produces reliable, accurate financial information that can be used to make sound financial decisions
  • Representing the College at Senior Accounting and Control Officers (SACO) meetings for Post- Secondary Institutions in Alberta
The successful candidate will have completed an Accounting Designation (CPA, CMA, CGA or CA), and have five or more years of related experience, preferably in a post-secondary environment. Experience gained in previous jobs should include team building, conflict resolution, strategy generation, as well as strong knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards. The incumbent must have demonstrated success in leadership within a public governance structure. Required is an ability to demonstrate an analytical aptitude, sound judgment, a high degree of attention to detail as well as the ability to assess and analyze large amounts of data and identify key combinations and comparisons of information.Additional InformationThis is a Full-time Continuing Administrative appointment on the Vermilion campus commencing as soon as possible.
