We offer small group learning allowing you to support participants through their unique learning goals.OKIB has a comprehensive benefit package consisting of:3 Weeks’ Vacation PayExtended Health and Dental BenefitsEmployer Matched Pension Plan15 Statutory HolidaysPaid Winter Holiday BreakDiscounted Silver Star Lift PassesCultural LeaveRetention Bonuses after years of service15 paid sick daysPaid personal leaveEmployee Assistance ProgramJOB SUMMARYThe purpose of the Supported Child Development Worker is to be responsible for child/children with special needs to provide a solid and safe foundation which fosters their physical, intellectual, emotional, social, creative and very necessary cultural development as an individual and as a member of a group.REPORTING STRUCTUREReports to the Snc’c’amalatn ManagerJOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTo assist in the planning and preparation of a program for the children based on the center’s philosophy and policiesTo plan and implement a well-balanced program of activities for the special needs child/children assignedTo be inclusive of all children in their approach in dealing with special needs child/childrenKeep any required data or records of the assigned child/children with special needsTo guide other staff on the special needs and requirements of the assigned child/childrenWork with Supported Child Care, therapists and other professionals to meet the needs of the childrenTo treat each child with dignity, respect, love and careTo retain the sensitivity of each child’s individual needsTo use guidance techniques that are age-appropriate, fair and encourage socially acceptable behaviourTo adhere to The B.C. Child Care Licensing Regulations which prohibit the use of physical punishment, humiliation, physical restraint, isolation, deprivation of food, rest, toileting or any other discipline methods that undermine the child’s self-esteem.To provide interaction with the children as a group and as required on an individual basisTo maintain appropriate positive day-to-day liaison with parents of assigned child/childrenTo encourage open communication concerning the needs and progress of assigned child/children with the parentsTo participate in the planning of special events, workshops and meetings for parentsOther duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONSEducationPrefer Early Childhood Education certificate or Assistant Certificate or experience as an EAA current First Aid CertificateHas experience working with young children with special needsHas knowledge of the Okanagan culture and traditionsA Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerability Sector), Vaccine Passport and 3 References are required.Quick Apply
