Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. Under the direction of the Manager, is responsible for the management and development of the Social Work Program. Provides clinical services to meet the emotional and social needs of the residents and their families. Is responsible for the supervision of the Social Work Program staff.QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And ExperienceM.S.W. or recognized equivalent from an accredited school of Social Work.Current full registration with the BC College of Social Workers . Successful completion of a recognized leadership course. Four years of social work experience which includes one-year of experience in a leadership role, preferably in geriatrics or extended care.Skills And AbilitiesAbility to supervise staff. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to deal with others effectively, especially the elderly, physically and/or emotionally disabled persons. Ability to organize, co-ordinate and prioritize workload. Ability to recognize needs and develop appropriate resources to meet social/emotional needs. Ability to make and implement decision, balancing organizational and program goals against available resources. Ability to work as a team member. Maturity and dependability required to gain resident, families and staff confidence. Ability to teach. Ability to operate related equipment such as a computer.
