Job Description

MatrixHR is currently seeing an Environmental Coordinator for an exciting client in BC. Reporting to the Regional Environment Coordinator, the Environment Advisor is responsible for assisting the Project Team to ensure environmental and contractual compliance along with recommending, supporting, and implementing environmental mitigation measures on a construction site.Location: Victoria BCWage: $70k - $90k/ per year Job Details:

  • Apply for environmental permits and authorizations and collaborate with regulatory authorities.
  • Prepare, validate, and implement environmental plans in conjunction with the Project Teams.
  • Provide advice and expertise to the Project Team on various environmental issues associated with projects, including but not limited to, Water Quality, Sensitive Environments, Erosion Control, Contaminated soils, etc.
  • Coordinates the various field teams in order to deploy the required environmental corrective actions.
  • Support and assist clients with environmental issues and site visits.
  • Cooperate and assist professionals and the Project Team in meeting the environmental objectives.
  • Coordinate and manage the scope and budget of third-party consultants required to fulfill the Project’s environmental requirements.
  • Conduct regular construction site inspections.
  • Maintain environmental performance indicators (non-conformities, spills, residual materials, best practices, etc.) and complete associated documentation.
  • Report any apparent deviations from requirements that may affect environmental obligations to the Project Team as soon as possible and assist with regulatory reporting as required.
  • Find proactive solutions to maintain environmental compliance.
  • Work with the Project Team to develop construction methodologies that mitigate environmental impacts.
  • Conduct sampling as required for construction sites.
  • Educate and provide training to subcontractors, workers, and the Project Team on environmental matters.
  • Collaborate in the production of the monthly report or any other environmental report required for the project.
  • Assist the Project Team (and Regional Office) in the preparation of service offers and proposals.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, sustainable development, engineering, geology, or a similar field.
  • Have a professional designation (Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP), RPBio., P.Ag., P.Eng., etc.) or be eligible to receive it within 12 months of employment.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the environmental field.
  • Construction worksite experience.
  • Strong understanding of the environmental challenges, impacts, and mitigation measures in construction.
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal environmental regulations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Hardworking and discerning.
  • Keen sense of organization and self-directedness.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Interest in Indigenous relations.
