Posting Title LG CNSL 1/2/3 - Legal Counsel 1 / 2 / 3 Position Classification Legal Counsel Level 3 Union CC Work Options Hybrid Location Victoria, BC V9B 6X2 CA (Primary)Salary Range LG CNSL 1 - $102,728.97 - 133,058.30 annually LG CNSL 2 - $141,907.01 - 184,034.71 annually LG CNSL 3 - $189,505.37 - $217,618.68 annually Close Date 1/2/2024 Job Type Regular Full Time Temporary End Date 12/31/2024 Ministry/Organization BC Public Service - gt; Attorney General Ministry Branch / Division Legal Services Branch Job Summary Apply your expertise and passion for innovation to this rewarding career opportunity.The Justice, Health and Revenue Group (JHR) is seeking expressions of interest for the role of Legal Counsel 1/2/3 to provide legal services and advice primarily with respect to childcare within the Ministry of Educationamp; Child Care and health matters within the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions, but also others as and when required.The successful applicant will work independently and as part of a team of solicitors providing legal services and advice in administrative and regulatory law, commercial transactions, agreement drafting and interpretation, and complex legislative initiatives. One of the key practice areas of solicitors advising these ministries involves government contracts. Our counsel assist to negotiate, draft, and manage agreements as part of an integrated legal team. And, work closely with the ministries and the Central Services #39; procurement team to support procurement execution and contract strategy. The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills, abilities, and competencies:

  • excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate complex legal issues in plain language;
  • ability to work as part of a team and to exercise superior independent judgement and decision making.
  • ability for client service orientation.
  • ability to identify and set priorities, plan, and allocate appropriate resources, and to persevere in seeing tasks and projects through to completion, particularly in the face of obstacles or challenging circumstances.
  • ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, and discretion as it pertains to highly sensitive legal issues.
Job Requirements:
  • Must be a member of the Law Society of British Columbia in good standingORimmediately eligible for call to the Bar.
  • Legal Counsel Level 1:Up to five years of call.
  • Legal Counsel Level 2:From 6th to 11th year of call.
  • Legal Counsel Level 3:More than 12 years of call.
  • Experience with complex legal matters and giving advice and counsel required by government on legal matters.
  • Experience advising on, drafting, negotiating, managing, and settling contracts, memorandums, and agreements.
  • Experience building strong relationships with clients, interest groups, and team members.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Experience advising public sector entities regarding contracts.
  • Experience advising on childcare or health care statutes.
