Job Description

The Salvation Army Community-Based Residential Facility (CRF) is a federal half-way house and its clientele work on a system of gradual, supervised release while they reside at the facility. The CRF #39;s priority is to assist and empower parolees - while managing their risk - to integrate them into the community and assist them in becoming self-sufficient and independent. The Program Facilitator (Counsellor I) delivers substance abuse treatment programming-the Skills for Recovery Program-to clients making the transition from incarceration to life in the community. HOURS:

  • 37.5 per week Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Education/Certifications:
  • 2-year diploma or equivalent coursework focusing on addictions treatment modalities
Experience:
  • Must possess with experience related to working with vulnerable groups in a program implementation setting
Required Skills/Knowledge:
  • Must possess an enhanced reliability clearance as a condition of employment
  • Must have a good working knowledge of various counselling strategies such as Person Centered, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, the Stages of Change, Narrative Therapy, Attachment theory, etc.
  • Must understand and reflect the ARC Philosophy, Standards and Tenets
  • Able to affirm and support the Mission and Values Statements of The Salvation Army
  • Must have facilitation and program experience
  • Must have experience in program design and implementation
  • Position is subject to personnel screening request and authorization by Correctional Services of Canada
  • Must possess suitable typing skills and computer literacy
  • Must be calm in busy and sometimes stressful situations
  • Must be well organized
  • Must be presentable in appearance in accordance with ARC standards
  • Must possess a valid class 5 Driver #39;s License or be willing to obtain
  • Must possess and maintain an active valid first Aid/C.P.R. certificate
  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills
  • Must have the ability to understand and be sensitive to cultural differences
  • Must provide a Criminal Record Check
Program Facilitation
  • Substance Abuse Program Facilitation/Implementation/Involvement
  • Maintains and updates program attendance daily and submits on a weekly basis to the CRF Manager
  • Prepares written summary reports on each program participant once they have left the program (completed or not completed) in a timely manner as directed by the CRF Manager
  • Teaches/facilitates SRP on a daily basis
  • Monitors/ensures compliance of Program Participants to expectations of program requirements
  • Co-facilitates group work with clients
  • Conducts regular one-on-one sessions with program participants
  • Attend SRP clinical Supervision meetings as directed
  • Participates in ongoing program assessment, review and evaluation
  • Ensures proper and professional case notes and group notes are maintained and recorded
  • Produces ATP Summary Report after graduation of client from the program
CSC Caseload Duties:
  • Supervises/counsels a caseload of CSC Clients
  • Conducts weekly supervision/counseling of clients
  • Liaises with community parole/case management team
  • Maintains proper and professional case notes
  • Completes CRF Summary Report after release of CRF resident
  • Develops Case Treatment Plan and reviews monthly
  • Attends and participates in bi-weekly case conference meetings
Security and Supervision:
  • Ensures all CRF/ARC safety and security policies and procedures are carried out consistently
  • Consults acceptance and discharge of all CRF resident
  • Performs on-going communication and liaison in CRF staff and Parole/Institutional Staff regarding safety issues and concerns with CRF residents
  • Participates in clientquot;interventions quot; in conjunction with client and other staff
  • Monitors client #39;s behavior and performance within the CRF and in the community where appropriate
Administrative/Other Duties:
  • Completes of statistical data/reports
  • Facilitates staff training/development workshops
  • Facilitates awareness of CRF/Programs to the community
  • Helps pack and itemize resident #39;s rooms/belongings.
  • Prepares weekend passes and travel permits for clients and advises other ARC staff of details
  • May be assigned other related duties in any area of responsibility
